For now I'm out. As a new player I was very excited to see Battletech on the move again. However, past the Cadet bonus this game is too much of a grind fest for me. Only two combat modes, with only one really useful for credit farming is not my idea of a fun time. Fun, with the limited options would be getting enough credits to buy new Mech's and change loadouts. A simple solution is to just have credit flow at a good level. PGI can make money on buying the extra Mech Bays. Use the Mech bays to get your money and let the gameplay be fun and rewarding. I bet you people will pick up the Mech bays in order to store all the Mechs they buy with free flowing C-Bills. I will either delete this account and start up another to get the Cadet Bonus so I can get the one build I have been grinding away at more quickly or I will just wait and see what happens on the launch date. I know it's still the beta but I have been worn out by the grind.

Players "were earning too much" (i.e. having too much fun) playing the game before. Can't have that, can we? Much better to draw out the fun to become as tedious as possible.

It should take months to afford a Kintaro (even though the 3D modellers and balance designers slapped it together in a couple of hours the day before it came out).

Our time is worthless compared to that of PGI employees. That's why they're not reading this thread at the moment.

There are plenty of new players. I get at least four on my team every night, sometimes six or eight. The MatchMaker assigns them to my team because it thinks a half dozen good players can help six noobs win against 12 competent players in premades (which is rarely true).

I just finished Dishonored, which is a great example of why MWO is sucking. There are a hell of a lot of legitimately masterful games out there, and it really is a buyers' market. Pay for MC or buy an experience? Many such games exist, we're not in DOS anymore.

And when you've heard from the diehard 'Mechwarrior fans that they want to quit, you know there's a problem.

the ones who came here as soon as 3pv was released and were making those record player retention numbers after just 1 week of data had been collected, duh!

The neat thing is - the new Recruit system kinda avoids this issue, doesn't it? If it wasn't his "real" account, then he would have had to play 25 games to be able to post here. That's a bit too much effort just to be able to pretend to be a newbie. O

Of course, conspiracy theorist will still say that the cabal of PGI haters will stop at nothing to destroy this game or PGI's reputation.

But more realistically, the post is genuine.

On the other hand, conspiracy theorists said that the NSA was wiretapping and listening in on everything... So I dunno anymore.

Et tu Brute? Been in that hell for 3 evenings already. Pretty much kills all intrest on playing.

I think PGI is really going to shoot themselves in the foot with the whole sep 17th "launch". Many casual players are expecting something big to happen to improve the game, but those of us who troll the forums/podcasts/twitter know that launch is bringing absolutely nothing. There will be a patch but it will be minor (orion for cbills and possibly some small weapon balancing tweaks).

They will also open the floodgates to all the reviews that have so far been lenient because MWO was in "beta".

And as for the new player experience and the economy model there's just one word i would use to describe it: abhorrent.

I have so far spent $160 on MWO and i do not really regret it as i am a huge battletech fan and have spent many enjoyable hours playing the game, but even i cant deny that if PGI does not get their act together the future is looking very bleak for MWO.

Its a shame they nerfed the earnings, I really though they had them in a nice place before, and I bought about 8 extra mech slots because I was buying new ones and fitting them out all the time, now I have 1 free one and its looking to be ages before I can afford the mech to fill it.

As for the fact that there is only two modes, they are working on it and there is no point in complaining about it, it won't make anything happen any faster.

Yes, when the only reason to keep playing is to earn new Mechs, you need a fairly consistent flow of CBills to make the goal seem achievable.

PGI nerfed the CBills, made it harder to get new Mechs... but did not add any new reason to keep playing.

I think you need to start with more mechs or make it easier to get a few mechs (with decent loadouts not that stock garbage). Sure you can afford one heavy with some upgrades or an assault with almost no upgrades with the cadet bonus, but then it will take an age to get your 2nd and 3rd mechs.

I think what makes a lot of new players sour is the fact they have to play the same mech over and over for hundreds of games before they can fully load out the next. Now you could expect them to buy a premium account, but why would they do this in good faith when they've had such a frustrating experience up to then (don't get me started on those terrible trial mechs either, I hated those things so much).

You need to give more freebies to start the ball rolling, so people get invested in the game (time wise) and are more likely to spend (because they are enjoying what they have, but they still could get more toys). I think the problem is made worse with the elite skill system where you need 3 of the same chassis, you might only want to play one variant, but alas you have to grind out the c-bills/games to upgrade your primary mech.

Actually, he is bothered by the game, and not the forums, meaning he didn't come to the forums to express his opinion just because he was having fun.
Your request has been denied, try again next time.

Anyway, OP is the vocal minority now. His boat is waiting at dock 47.

Just like they're working on CW and UI 2.0, right?

I might gripe like the rest of you except i understand this is not a finished product. Dishonored was fully developed before it was released. If anything i feel privileged to get the game a year or 2 before it should have actually been considered "release material". I get to see the highs and lows of the development cycle and hopefully provide useful feedback while the game gets made.

If you were under the impression that MWO is a finished product then sure i'd say it wasn't a very well made game. But understanding that its a huge work in progress and that things will be worked out over time makes the highs and lows easily bearable
