At the moment, 'mechs just ragdoll when they die, no matter what type of death it was (loss of head, loss of center torso, loss of both legs, incredible overheating). At some point, could we get different kinds of death animations, like a large explosion if the reactor blows, or the cockpit blowing up if its headshot, stuff like that?

I'm sure down the road it may happen as special effects.

I would much rather have mech that are destroyed to to overheating fall. There have been a couple of times a overheat destroyed mech fooled part of the team and had them waist their ammo.

Honestly I'm happy with what we've got at the moment. The last year in MWO seems to have taught people to lower their expectations, which is a big deal.

Anyways, a spider's 100m death slide is a gratifyingly awesome spectacle. AOE deathsplosions might never see the light of day, so deathslides I'm content with :D

Reactors don't explode, unless you're Michael Stackpole. That said, I wouldn't mind some flavorful alternative damage effects in addition to the current firepuff and ragdoll.

The current death animations are a lot better than they used to be. I remember not so long ago when catapults would do somersaults and jenners would jump to the moon when they died.
