Simple. Are you playing because this game is called Mechwarrior Online or because it has Mechwarrior in its name(and all the stompy robot goodies)?

Players are unhappy, and PGI isn't really taking notice, so a question to determine why are people actually playing their game, the fame of the franchise, or PGI's work.

I've allowed multiple choice because some people may actually find both as their reason to play.

edit Clarification:
Apparently people will be voting MWO because there's no alternative on the market. That is exactly the reason why they shouldn't be voting MWO. Fact is that they'll probably switch games if another MW title with 1PV/3PV gameplay appeared(figuratively speaking).
I'm not trying to skew results, just keeping the indecisiveness out.

edit Clarification 2:
MW stands for anything tied to BT. MWO stands for the game PGI made.

edit 3:
Added a special option for those with a midlife crysis :).

I am playing this game, because it is a Mechwarrior game. There are things about the game, I like and dislike. I still have hope that this game can be better then it is. I have spent a **** ton of money on this game. And that is my fault. As is the game is not going to get anymore money from me. In my opinion, PGI has made some bad mistakes. But that being said, I have hope. Just not enough to keep spending money.

Lots of players are unhappy.
And then lots of players are happy.
Game has issues but there's a lot of happy players. And they are only gonna get happier in the next 2 weeks to 6 months.

Me, I started playing because it was Battletech/Mechwarrior. But I am still playing because I love what it is and still lots of fun.

I play because I want to play a version of MechWarrior that is online. That means that it is like the MechWarrior games I use to play during the 1990s with missions, objectives and an evolving and engaging storyline where I play a significant part in shaping the course of events. I don't actually care for the PvP as I find it rather boring after a while. But I understand why the initial focus is on PVP add that PVE will be added later. I've seen several other MMOs that started out the other way and ended up with a hopelessly unbalanced PVP system. Any attempts to fix the balance the PVP side negatively effect the PVE side of the game.

As for the "unhappy players", those are mostly the competitive players who are here solely for the PVP. They don't particularly want the same type of game I want. Which is why I am not that troubled by what PGI has done so far.

I play this game because its a MECHWARRIOR game. Period.

The problem here is that this is a monopoly.

You always have options on other games:

Fifa or PES
GT5 or Forza
Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest
Just to name a few.

But in our case, PGI has the rights to Mechwarrior, and took care of the opposition. Even closing MWLL. Which was a great alternative.

If another MW game were to show up, and be better, I would gladly change. (But that is natural, everyone would transfer to a better game).
The problem is that there is no way that another game can be made because of rights.

Look, don't vote MWO just because there's no alternative. If that is really your statement then you're clearly only playing because it's MW.

I play it because it is fun. Simple as that. Too many COD clones out there. If an MW game comes out and is superior, perhaps I'll play it. This game right now may be iffy in many areas, but I still like it. It feels like one of the most fair shooters I've played. It rewards clever thinking, patience, and tactics over twitch shots and sniper rifles. There is a great deal of potential in the game, and I love it.

Because it's the Battletech IP. Where's that option?

I'm still playing because I don't play anything else at the moment and they haven't completely driven me off, yet.

Yet.

But I can see it coming.

I used to pay my college student housing painting lances made of lead, then pewter alloy, played the entire time too. My greatest fear here, is that PGI will end the franchise ever being remade into an MMO again in my remaining lifetime.

I've seen much worse things happen to a franchise. The worst that can happen is MechWarrior be put on shelf indefinitely, like 99% of games and IPs that don't measure up. Look at Freespace 2, the highest rated game Saint's Row dev Volition has ever made and an one of the best examples of the space sim genre and it failed to sell. They still had the IP under THQ but were forbidden from working on it and now a hardly operative Interplay owns the IP, likely to rot in IP Hell for decades. Again, it could be worse, so I wouldn't worry so hard.

Personal opinion.

Those that are mad and still here hold out hope that the game can be salvaged.

And yes its the only big stompy mech out there.

And that is why PGI needs to learn that those exact players will not be here for too long if they don't start shaping up. They can't live off MW fame forever.

Just to correct something here. PGI didn't not close down MW:LL. MW:LL closed themselves down because there was an official MechWarrior game on the market. What MW:LL is the equivalent of a fansub, technically illegal at it violates copyright laws, but mostly ignored because no one had any financial interest in it at the time.

Also, there will not be another MW game that completes with MWO. PGI owns the IP to the video games and can do with it as they please. The only way another developer could develop an MW game is if they license or bought the IP from PGI.

Battletech Brought me here.

MWO is the reason I stay.

What actually happened: MW:LL people got tired of doing tons of work for no money. Lots of them went to work at PGI, but all of them decided to stop working for no money.

What you believe: MW:LL GOT SHUT DOWN BY THE MAN. Of course they wanted to work their entire life for no pay!

MWO, since I never got around to playing MW4 online component, maybe because I was 8 years late to the party?

I played MW3 when I was 9 years old and actually never played MW4. There's really no "being late to the party".

I'm playing because Hawken got boring really quick, and I'm also burnt out from playing too much World of Tanks. Mech combat is a pretty niche market, and so it's not like I'm playing it because it's set in the Mechwarrior universe, it's more that there is little direct competition and the competition isn't exactly great.
