Alternatively you can go gauss 2LL 2 SRM6 .. and you have the range to patiently deal dmg.. and brawl when the time comes...
With your MC, I would suggest mech bays.. about 50 - 60 of them .. if you're playing a lot .. like 2-3 hours per day regularly and plan to... then 1-3 months of premium time is great... there are going to be a lot of mechs to buy around launch and soon you'll want to have 3 of each to unlock all the bonus pilot efficiencies!
Planning your mech purchases is important.. my tier list has lots of info on mechs plus links and info on other guides etc... GL

1. Learn about the Weapons here http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/ ...scroll down to Weapon Systems.
2. Play around with the Mechlab Tool there ( remember to allocate Armor , Example : http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9c1732a38d74b49 )
3. Watch some Youtube Videos abaut Mechs ur interested
4. Think about the Cataphract Series
Phracts are all nice and have the opportunity to use all Weaponsystems. Finaly the 3d is one of the best ( The Best lots say ) and most versatile Mech in the Game.
Because of the new Movement Restrictions Mechs without JJ have some drawbacks...
3D is in the nice place to have the Speed, Agility and JJ. U can do all the Things u want:
- Typical Sniper Gauss, 2x PPC, 300 XL ( Gauss in the Arm, never ever in to the Sidetorso with XL; Note the Gaussweapon explodes, not the Ammo, so Gauss explodes, kills the XL in the Same Sidetorso, ur dead, and the Weapon has only 3 Hitpoints, open Sidetorso can lead to Instantdeath )
- Brawler AC20, 4 MLaser, 300 StandardEngine
- SimpleLaser 4 LLaser 300 StandardEngine
- FunGun 2 LBX10 4 Mlaser....or 2 UAC5
U cant go wrong with 3D, its still seen alot and also used alot in 12men premade
Roumata, out.

Based on what you linked to us as being your Atlas RS. Using UAC5 instead of Gauss since GRs are about to get nerfed and the weapon that will replace it is a UAC5. The ML and SSRMs are just there for light defense. BAP included for faster targeting info which should help you pick the right spots to shoot. It isn't optimized, just gives you the feel of the UAC5+2PPC.

AC20s are short range
UAC5s are longer ranger
You can check out the table here.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...eapon_ballistic
Energy and Ballistic weapons do full damage up to RANGE and drop linearly to zero damage at MAX RANGE
Missile weapons do ZERO damage beyond RANGE
The Max Range for Energy is 2x Range
The Max Range for Ballistic is 3x Range
The Max Range for Missile is Range

This is a setup I did for the 3D. how's it look?
CTF-3D
The PPCs should be in the R/LT torsos. They are mounted up high on the mech so they will clear partial cover. The Gauss of course goes in the Arm. The Cataphract 3D comes stock with an XL280 Engine. Since an XL300 engine costs 5M CBills you might just want to use the stock for now.
After that it is all a matter of personal preference. Some use 2 tons of ammo some 3... don't think I've ever seen 4 but whatever. Some use 4 JJ some just 1. Others do include AMS, most don't, but since you are new I think including it is smart. Some use PPCs others ERPPCs. Several CTF-3Ds have been linked in this thread. Check them all out and decide which you like best.

Narc is pretty much useless. Not worth the tonnage.
If you want a missile boat you are better off with a C1 or C4 catapult, because they have energy hardpoints to supplement your missiles so you can bring your own TAG laser.

TBT-3C includes the XL 300, costs 3,5 millions more, but could be a good deal. A CN9-D would be another option.
Gauss ammo, since you can fire a gauss, and stil cool down, 4 tons of ammo can have a nice benefit.

Tell ya what. I'm gonna run that mech tomorrow, I need to retire the ROFLPULT as the 90 LRM alpha strike terror with less armor than a stock commando isn't even fun anymore thanks to the ghost heat. I'm putting the recording drives back in then anyway, so I'll give it a few runs. It's actually a fairly solid build that I've used in the past (not identically but close).
This is my own version, it's essentially the same thing but one less ton of LRM ammo, 1 double heatsink added and items redistributed according to my own preference, more suited to my own play styles and concerns when fighting.
(Forgot to upgrade the 250 engine to a 255 at no additional weight. I don't have 250 engines anyway).

really... the NARC sounds so much better on paper compared to to TAG. you need LOS with TAG where with NARC it's fire and forget sounds like

OK so the Catapult A1 is rather sacred to me. I get very twitchy when someone abuses it like you did. This is my Catapult. It is the only one I own since I sold the other two sellouts to the "Need Moar Missiles" theme.

Everyone and their brother points to the fact that "you can use TAG" with the Catapult C1 and C4. You don't need it IMHO Lurming (using LRM Mechs) is my specialty. In close to 1700 matches now I've played 1300 of them as an LRM boat. I have close to 600 matches in the Catapult A1 alone. From first hand experience, spectating, and attacking I can pointedly tell you that TAG does one thing extraordinarily well. It announces the fact that LRM user is RIGHT HERE. Please come and shoot me! That is the thing it is best at doing. Aside from that it makes smacking lights with LRMs at 300m or so easy. Yeah it does break through enemy ECM but so does moving your mech and picking another target.
NARC just plain sucks do not ever use it. Ever!
You might not know this but LRMs have a MINIMUM range of 180m. Anything that close or closer when you launch will take no damage at all.
Sorry if the tone seems overly harsh but you just did bad things to my baby
:Hugs his A1: s'ok the bad ppl have gone away

It is, but the range is pathetic, it weights a lot more than TAG because of the ammo you have to bring, and if the enemy mech gets damaged on the spot where the NARC is the NARC can be destroyed.

Why not carry SRM6? because the streak is smaller in size without the artemis?

Guess I'm the kind of person that enjoys heavy armor and up close figthing.
Maybe I stick witht he atlas? Getting good at it. getting matches where I get 3-4 kills with 500+ damage done. key (for me at least) is to stick with a pack of mechs.

Well I'm finally getting into the game and I bought an Atlas R5 and set it up as a close in brawler from what I remember (SRM 6 - 4x ML - 1 x AC20) etc
I also bought a hunchback 4J and haven't touched it (that was when I first started playing it)
I'm trying to establish what I like and my play style and having little difficulty.
LRM boats are fun, but I don't think they do lots of damage and experienced players know how to get around
I do have a thing for going in and brawling at very close distances, so I'm thinking I set something up with ballistics again. I'm also a big fan of sniping from longer distances.
Looking at suggestions...
from my research here I see that PPCs and Gauss Rifles are very popular right now.
Again, I have been around for awhile, but have been clueless most the time. I'm just starting to understand the module system and all right now.
I have 4740 MC, and 8 mil credits to give you an idea of what I can afford.
also perhaps it's time to finally activate that 1 month premium account lol.
I do play other pay to win games and don't mind spending 20 bucks if I have to to support the game and get something nice.
so point me in the right direction
From description you are looking for Jaggermech
