so I don't see any way of having a magnitude of same type weapons (bunch of LRMs) without getting penalized for it.

Correct... consider this... a Stalker with 6 PPCs this is what Heat Scaling prevents. A single click of the mouse generating an Alpha Strike of 60 points of damage. OK sounds good except, well the 6PPC Stalker was a joke really, not certain we needed to have it stopped. I could go on and on about this topic but many hundreds of Threads have already been created with thousands of posts. Suffice it to say... yeah... we don't have to worry about the useless, fragile, slow joke build 6PPC Stalker anymore... hurray... I think.

Tell ya what. I'm gonna run that mech tomorrow, I need to retire the ROFLPULT as the 90 LRM alpha strike terror with less armor than a stock commando isn't even fun anymore thanks to the ghost heat. I'm putting the recording drives back in then anyway, so I'll give it a few runs. It's actually a fairly solid build that I've used in the past (not identically but close).

This is my own version, it's essentially the same thing but one less ton of LRM ammo, 1 double heatsink added and items redistributed according to my own preference, more suited to my own play styles and concerns when fighting.

(Forgot to upgrade the 250 engine to a 255 at no additional weight. I don't have 250 engines anyway).

Thanks Koniving, did you do that run? I can't seem to find anything more recent than a month on your youtube channel.

Just so you know, with my 5 lrm5 Stalker, I have them set to chain fire. The reasons are a few. 1) AMS at its best can only take out 5 lrms in a salvo, however in order to do that it has to fire a LOT of ammo. (Way more than the 5 missiles incoming). By chaining my lrms I force the enemy to literally blow through the ams ammo like there's no tomorrow, and some of my initial lrms are still hitting. Also, because I am chaining my lrms there is practically no heat buildup, which means I don't need as many DHS as the same mech running lrm 15 or 20s. I can literally fire my lrms continually at a target without having to worry about heat, and when missiles hit they rock the cockpit. By firing lrms in chain there is a nearly constant bombardment of lrms hitting my enemy and throwing off his aim. I can tell that my lrms are hitting by watching my targeting reticle turn red. Also, if I fire at an enemy too soon and immediately lose my lock I can stop firing having wasted only 5 or 10 missiles rather than 40 or 50.

and when you chain, doesn't that cancel out ghost heat? only like a .5 sec delay even

Not yet. My computer had some major issues over this past month which is why I haven't been on as much. I actually forgot to put in the hard drive for vids. I got work early tomorrow but when I get back home I'll try to squeeze it in.

Well I tell you what... Been playing with the atlas with this setup: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c019e4f038917ca I'm really enjoying it except 2 things. it's reallllyyy slow, and I wish the range was little bit more at like 400ish. at 270 I'm getting little too close I think with such a slow mech. I haven't tried the PPC. what's so special about them compared to other energy weapons (like med laser) I have messed with LRMs and I just don't enjoy them.

I'm a big fan of Large Lasers on my Atlai so I whipped this up that is a couple of small changes from your mech. Most notably no one needs that much armor on your legs or arms.

really... the NARC sounds so much better on paper compared to to TAG. you need LOS with TAG where with NARC it's fire and forget sounds like

Yeah narc is "fire and forget." But the second half of that is "Fire and forget about it hitting."

I REALLY like this build AS7-RS. If I'm not caught in the open or swarmed by multiple mechs I do all right in this Mech. Going 62.4 kph with an Atlas can be a nasty surprise :)

Only problem with this build can be a lack of space if you try to build something else. I usually use multiple builds because I don't like to always play the same thing. I pilot the whole range of mechs (lights to assaults).

Also if you like playing with Stalkers I would recommend trying this build STK-5M for a few matches. It's a pretty balanced build. Just make sure you have depleted all your LRM before engaging in brawlers range (270 or less). And don't forget to stop firing those ML if you get to hot or just chainfire the suckers. I love this build...

Guys, really good stuff with all the great advice on this thread. Its this kind of atmosphere of great advice and encouragement that really makes the new player forum stand out. Seriously you should all get a pat on the back from PGI as this is exactly what new and old players need.

Id give you all a gold star if I could!
