So I have read and heard that the community didn't want exploding mechs? For the most part I understand why, since it would be far too easy to abuse. However making the explosions not 100% to happen, would fix any and all "trolling" and abuse cases.

When a mech gets killed there would be a 5% chance the core would go critical, and detonate in a 50m radius dealing 100 damage at the center (10m) falling off to 25 on the edge. It is supposed to be a very powerful explosion, not like the pop-its that the Airstrike and Artillery are. It would be big, and mean and very devastating to any mech nearby (both friend and foe). With a very low chance like that, it would mean it wouldn't always happen, but when it dose.....people better watch out.

As for damage to engine size, it should be 1 point of damage per a rating. Yes that would mean when a 400XL detonates.......things die in the center, and things don't feel so good at the edge. So it would be 400 damage within 10m of the mech exploding, and drop off to 100 at 50m.

If 5% chance proves to be too often, then a 2% would suffice to make it very rare, as it should be.

I fully agree with this.

The main problem the community has with the exploding reactors is this: it's against lore. Fission reactors don't explode, they shut down. That being said, I would rather enjoy seeing 'mechs torn apart by any internal explosions, instead of just collapsing as they do now. When 3 tons of AC/20 ammo cook off, I want to see that 'mech fly apart, darn it!

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Fusion Engine.

Just say No to Stackpole!

Also, the explosions you are thinking of come from Fission Engines, which are nuclear powered. AAANNNNNDDDD yes, sometimes Fusion Engines explode in a glorious explosion of explodiness, however, the chances of it happens are prolly .01% In which case, if this actually did happen, I'd be all for it ^^

This would be rather pretty to look at but from what I understand of the lore, once a fusion engine loses its shielding it is automatically shutdown. The pilot had to override the containment safety's in order for it to explode a'la Kai Allard-Liao when he destroyed a trinary of Jade Falcon's on Alyina.

Yeah, sometimes they do explode most awesomely, but it's either done on purpose by the pilot, or the engine got so damaged that all the safety and backup equipment got taken out. Like I posted, it's prolly like a .01% chance of it actually sploding so bad that it will damage stuff around the mech.

Given the technology mech reactors are made out of, the worst that can happen on reactor breach is a small gout of plasma that instantly disappears, and maybe a quick flash of radiation. Fusion reactors are built specifically to not go critical.

Now, if you want a big flashy explosion when a bunch of ammo goes up in a mech (rather than the pretty tame looking ammo explosions we currently get) I would be for that.

Scav3ng3r posted a link to the Fusion reaction which occurs inside the mech's reactor.

The link says that the chance of explosion are very very low, but they are way too far from being "0".

Quantum mechanics taught us that there is not such an event that has 0 probabilities to happen.

So, I think rather than 5% or 2%, a 0.1% chances is "good", or maybe lower than that, but, the damage output from the explosion being bigger. (The bigger the engine, bigger the explosion).

EDIT:
from the lore:

A very low chance of 2% would be the best overall, since its very rarely going to happen, but would change the tactics of players with stripped mechs. Since right now you lose everything.....your just a walking stick with nothing you can do, but have a chance to maybe take some people with you if the gods permit it.....completely different game. Its a gamble people can use, and one that enemys would also be aware of and would learn to kill/shoot people with that in mind.
