I freeze randomly during the game. Sometimes I can play for hours and then randomly it will freeze. Sometimes I can game for a few minutes and it will freeze. I can only guess that there is some odd thing that happens which makes the game freeze.
Checked the "Workaround" thread. I saw no workarounds though.....
So is there a workaround for this random crashing?

The only workaround is to not play.
This is a known issue and we are all waiting for a fix.

You know what would be nice? A bug reporting tool so maybe we can send some useful feedback via a stack trace when the game freezes or crashes. That's apparently either too hard or makes too much sense.

This happened just happened to me in a game.
My screen froze and immediately a guy on vent said he froze too. He was in a spider. 5D and I was in a Spider 5K.
I do the alt-ctrl-del trick and it works and two people in chat said their game froze as well.
So whatever is happening is server side.

I have had this happen pretty regularly recently (fresh install of windows, all patched up etc).
I have found that though my screen freezes, the game continues. Alt Tabbing out and in fixes it most of the time and allows me to continue in the match. The problem is, doing this takes 3 or 4 seconds.. and I've moved 100 yards ahead, out of cover or into a swarm of the enemy team.
When it occurs, it doesn't seem to corrolate with any mech in particular, nor does it seem to be linked to any particular action I'm performing (jumping, accellerating, slowing, stopping, shooting, etc).
I have a pretty solid system for this game and run it at full detail, full screen mode with a steady 60fps. Wondering if it might be a level-of-detail issue or full screen issue?
core i5 2500k @3.3ghz (stock)
16gb ram
geforce 670gtx (326.80 drivers)
windows 7 x64

I have the same or at least a similar problem. I managed to get it to go away for a few months until it came back this morning.
Here's what works (sometimes):
- Run the MWO repair tool, just to be on the safe side.
- Try running in full windowed mode.
- When you freeze alt+tab, if that doesn't do anything open task manager with ctrl+alt+del which will sometimes get the game going again.
-In the MWO folder find the file "user.cfg", open it and add
Where X is what you want your max FPS to be. To see your fps in game press F9 I think, and set the number higher than that.
Hopefully one of those helps somewhat.

This consistently happens to me when an Atlas suffers a component destruction (mine or another's). It happens all the time in my DDC, and iirc Bombadil even experiences it when he plays his atlas. I just had it happen in a match where me and a raven (me in a jaeger) were popping the atlas' left leg. Repair and a re-install to a new location have not helped.
