I've been piloting the Centurion since i started, it was the first mech i bought and ive had it for around a month. However, every loadout ive seen incorperates an XL engine, but i dont have enough slots in centre torso. Can anyone explain to me how you fit the XL engine?

Hi
I'll take a stab at this XL engines take up a couple of slots in the SIDE torso's to represent their extra bulk. The SLots they need in the CENTER torso is the same as a standard engine. As long as you have the total amount of slots needed with at least 2 spare in EACH side torso you should be OK. If you have Ferro fibrous armour and Endo steel you may be out of total slots as well. If you go XL engine you do not need FF armour. Only some lights need FF endo AND an XL engine...
Basically you risk losing your engine to a side destruct as well as a center torso core out in return for a decent weight saving.
That said in my (limited) experience the Centurion is one of the better Mechs to risk this on as its side torso's are fairly small compared to its CT

The only Centurion design that legitimately uses an XL Engine is the LRM CN9-A and some might wonder whether that is a legitimate design at all
Do not ever put an XL Engine in a Centurion. Along with Narc and Flamers these three things are probably the only rules in mech building.
Never use Flamers
Never use Narc
Never put XL in a Centurion

The Cn9-D might try to use a XL engine only with uberly fast engines like 350 and above ratings, trouble is that with so big engines your payload is going to be closer to that of a light, so it's a no-go. Never put XL's in Cents or HBKs unless you have suicidal tendencies or you employ them as harassers/flankers from long range, but even then anyone with a 2PPC+GR will make short work of you.
Cicadas are basically forced to employ them, Blackjack 1X can do (the rest is pitiful due to the very sub-250 rated engine), Trebs while used as mid range support or with LRMs using 280 rated engines can do it, Kintaroes.. oh well they'll blow up the CT so go xl (but don't go Kintaro at all, it's a walking torso, I hope today they've solved that issue as they stated).

Cent's have a amazing zombie ability due to the hitbox issues and damage transfers, don't go XL on A or AL chassi unless you have a very good reason to destroy the Z mode. As a zombie you can tank with the best of them.

XL have their place in CN9-D. I use a 300XL and just harass people. 2 x AC2 is funny. Just few things you have to remember when using a XL engine. DON'T be the first mech to engage the enemy. Let other ppl find the enemy and try to flank them. Then harass them. Sure I don't get many kills but the disarray you can sow in the ranks is funny a heck.

the Cent-D is the only one worth putting an XL in, and that's mostly because you can get a pretty large engine in it.
