they have a steady stream of people getting Beta keys. What is Beta ?
It is a work in process , nothing is set in stone , everything is subject to change , the fact that they are moving forward , they let Paul kick the computer, are all good signs .
That said ,It would be nice for a little more info.But..................
I would rather wait and get a better game , then get in now , and have it Crash or die on me.

Having access to a mechlab, even if we couldn't drop in game, would certainly give folks something to do and something new to talk about for the next few weeks.
A MechLab app to mess around with on your phone or other device when you are well away from the game would be a fun time sink as well, even when the game is past release.
It could also be monetized either through ads or a subscription.
World of Warcraft does pretty well with the app that also allows people to participate in guild chat, though I don't know if something similar would translate for MW:O.

Standard variants are the "simple" option for newer players.
In the end, it's not all that complicated. Getting off stock variants and into personalized one is Goal Oriented Gameplay.
'nuff said.

Wow I can't believe how many people voted Yes. Bet you all think they could throw it together in a couple of days don't you ?
The planning and man hours this would take for a gamer that is just around the corner would be a serious waste of money.
As to not reject the idea 100%, because more of anything and little tools are always cool. My comment is on the aspect of man hours and money, with the games early play being just a mont haway.
I would say such an interface could be great if it connected to the games database itself, allowing players to manage their mechs on mobile devices. Now that could make it a little more worth doing.

Well someone should make one for those that like to tinker with mechs and put it on the MWO wiki.
there are plenty of mech building programs out there but the devs are doing things a little different so i would like them to build one with there system set up so we can understand it because there is alot of open ends on the forums about it and nothing that realy is clear about how it works plus it would be nice to see if varients peopel have used before or have come up with are even plauseable. that way people dont get ticked with the game after grinding for 4 days to get the mech and components just to find out it cant work

12 hours of personal time != 12 hours of time in a workplace. Collaboration, juggling various side duties, etc can bloat that "12 hours" out to two weeks or more.
Plus maintenance becomes a big factor. Just inputting the data for all the hardpoints would take several minutes per mech. Plus you have to proof when any changes occur.
When the game removes the NDA people will release their own planners so people can min/max at their leisure.

In all honesty, there was a builder site for world of warcraft character trees years before blizzard bothered to create their own. It was made by players, not developers.
I understand people not wanting dev's to waste their time, but it is their time to waste. We are merely watching and waiting, making a suggestion is not the end of the world. Is having a builder a waste of time if it eases the learning curve for new players? We want this game to be popular for a wide audience, not just for ourselves right? Would you rather play a complete game that is more intuitive and allows you to test builds before playing them or they rush the release?

I think it would be nice if they released a limited mechlab, for us not in beta to tinker with it now. Think of it as a teaser. If i recall correctly spore released a creature editor before the game was released for exactly the same purpouse. WoW also lets you tinker with talents on the site, without even requiring the game. This could not only give us players a new toy too let us pass time with, but it would probably attract more publicity, attracting more players to the game potentially increasing PGI's profit. Thus not only would we benefit, but so would PGI.
However this would take some Dev time, probably not that much (it would still not be insignificant), but I belive the benefits clearly outweigh this drawback.

I vote yes, though i realize it probably wont be viable until after the NDA is lifted or post-release. it would still give us something to do in the meantime, especially for us away from home for a while. I dont have decent enough internet (i would compare it to worse than dial-up), and would definitely like to play around with a builder using MWO's interface just to get used to it, ya know?
i guess for now, ill play around with SSW
