Ok, tried switching to an xl engine, and I gotta say that suddenly the mech becomes alot more survivable. Slapped a xl360 engine in there and it can outrun alot of stuff even without the speed tweak.

Although I still feel like the cataphracts and jagers have more firepower, might be my build or the fact that I'm alot more used to those mechs. Not giving up on this fella though. Currently trying 3 medium pulse lasers and 2 AC5s, seems to work pretty decently if I stay with the team or pick off lone stragglers.

Like someone mentioned in another thread regarding the protector, so far it feels like unless they fix the giant CT hitbox (not likely), XL engine is the way to go.

For ppl who are having problems w/ CT deaths, I'd check to see how it handles defensive torso-twisting. I've seen players spread damage out pretty effectively like that.

And on the subject of defensive torso-twisting, check out the VA and K variants. Can fit a lot of potential loadouts into the RA/RT.

Haha well said :) although had a game yesterday where our team had a lance full of DDCs and... well one of them teamkilled another by accident and the rest kinda vanished before long lol.

Not a bad build. However, my Victor 9S does that with jump jets, more armor, and more speed.

Nice! But imo the Victor looks like a giant commando (as in I don't like it's asthetics :D). Granted people are saying the orion looks like a hunchback on roids lol (I think hunchbacks look decent though).

Well I am broke right now, so no protector for me right now. But I have been playing on smurfy, and I like the Orion if just for the fact that I can make a lot of builds with standard structure. Except for the ON1-V. The two ballistic spots just need a little more weight/room to work with. Note some of these builds I COULD put on Endo and upgrade the engine, but I currently only have an XL300 as my biggest XL.

Also, if Smurfy is correct on the ON1-K's hardpoints (especially with regard to the two energy hardpoints per arm), it is essentially a humanoid MAD-3R... :(

Already got my Orauder build plotted out.

Now that I've spent some cash on the Orion and had it for a few days, here's a couple of features you should know before you invest in this mech:

1.  CT takes a lot of damage
2.  Cockpit is like a Catapult
3.  Torso twisting still takes a lot of center damage
4.  Great for sniping
5.  Expect to die earlier than usual

To sum it up, the Orion is a great looking mech but fails because the CT is so large, opponents don't even bother to aim at your shoulder for an XL engine.  That says is all.

Before you buy this mech, look at your other options, unless you like the features I've mentioned.

The Orion is currently every brawlers nightmare, not dream. Anyone who shoots you knocks your CT out - from any angle basically. The mech is unplayable, you gotta hide behind rocks and in the last line just to avoid get shot at at all.

If PGI leaves it like this a refund for MC purchase in actual currency would be in order. Idk how they can deliver such half-cooked content. If I am buying some chicken wings I also expect them to be well done. You just can't sell stuff, that hasn't passed decent Q&A - this is purely disappointing and something that real Q&A should find.

Lol, I ran my Orion since day one non-stop, and I now shoot nothing but the center torso against other Orions. And it works every time. And the rest of the time I hid behind everything including spiders, commandos, and jenners so I can get cover. Quite of sad actually....

Truth is, that's sorta the style of play that is needed for this mech atm, you can't be the one running in first in any battle, cuz regardless of XL or no you're gonna melt. I tried playing my atlas some again yesterday and it did better with less effort.

Still, I'm holding onto the orion for looking like omega supreme, that's the biggest plus for me atm haha.

the Orion is for sure way less sluggish than most of the heavies and assaults and still can deliver a concentrated punch. I can see why it's good for sniping. it's just as an old fan of battletech with the flavor text and history about how this mech was used as a front line mech before the assaults became the mainstream front lines and than gets to play one and discover what a huge let down it is.... kind of disappointing. naturally can't go toe to toe with an atlas or stalker, but still, I would like it to survive more then 10 seconds in a front line fire fight. I mean for crying out loud, the cataphract last longer and got a broader torso and is 5 tons lighter....

You have to use cover, bigger mechs, and constant moving, and if you do, you can eat people. Mine has 2 large pulse lasers, Sarah's engine, some srms and an LB 10X.......deadly business.

That build and this mech's maiden voyage got her first kill, another Orion, stock, new player who was shouting how his Gauss wasn't shooting when he clicked it at me.

3 kills, 7 assists, (a defeat), 526 damage, never died, got outcapped and match ended 5 v 2.

Word, off topic but speaking of surviving, the king of that job has gotta go to cents. Those zombie kings of the apocalypse they are!

Yep, I get cored 90% of the time. I fear other heavies and assaults 1 on 1.

The CT is perfectly huge so it holds an XL engine fantastic. Big arms can protect CT, twist.

It's like a mini atlas. lots of viable configs. I dont like the ac/20 builds myself, but I have found it runs very well with it's native lbx-10 and 2 large lasers + whatever else you want to throw on.

the arm swing on these things is fantastic.

Victor beats it, but the victor is simply a better mech. the orion is just an old classic mech, much loved, but lets face it, what other mechgame had a good orion compared to every other mech? Here in mwo it's actually pretty decent for an oldie.
