Looks like there might be 4 C-Bill variants beyond the Protector. Curious what your plans are to utilize them.

This is a well-balanced build:

You'll probably eat though your target's AMS ammo faster than their armor and that's not to discredit your fire power, mind you!

These are ones I posted in another thread which was falsely labeled as a Orion-1K thread not as a Protector thread....

Ok, Smurphy's is updated. So far the K and VA are my favorites. The others look like a chore to pilot to get elites for the first 2.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f3bd0e312455343
This VA design is taking advantage of the SRM2 buff. This is likely one of the few applications it would be a serious boon over using a single SRM4 or several larger tubes. One of the Catafpract variants would be another situation.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...571be0c7bce5566
This K variant is takes advantage of all of the machine's hardpoints except for AMS.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...585c72c4caa7e91
This is a fun looking VA build which combines heavy stopping power with anti-medium and light capabilities.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...08d176f9e332562
This K build is meant to wreck things at close range.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...06113e9a18d5ff2
And so is this one.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...97926ee11787f79
And this is what I have on my Victor. But on an Orion

I like this one for the ON-V

ON1-V

Or the same build but switch in an AC20 + 4t of ammo for the AC2 and AC5

A Brawler, maximizing heat/armor/firepower. This thing will eat backs!

This is what you make:

MAD-3R

Ok, AC5 is in the wrong torso, but who cares.

Ok guys, one question: how is the Orion scaled?
Height, width borked or about right?
Please compare it to: Awesome (too wide) Stalker (a bit small for an assault) Cataphract and Jager (about right), Trebuchet (too tall).
Ok 2 questions: any glaring hitbox deficiency?

It looks like a big hunchback with a huge CT. Running mine with a 300xl 2xPPC and a AC10. Plays like a mini Awesume. Its not too bad but would be better with a smaller CT. Ran several builds so far. Got some millage out of 2xPPC and 2xSRM6. Did run a few with 2xERPPC and a 350xl. Low alpha fast moving sniper but the speed did not help the CT problem much.

The stock build is not bad (gauss, ppc, 2ML srm4). You can get endo, lose half a ton of armour, and take another srm4, or ditch the missiles, and go with twin uac5

I've tried numerous variants, including 2LL 2uac5, 3LL gauss, and so far, my favourite is 2uac5, 2ML, PPC.

The main problem with the stock build I see is, that you need 3 weapon groups, that should all reside on mouse buttons, i.e. 2 MLs, PPC, Gauss. None of these are well put on the keyboard (unlike SRMs/LRMs). Too hard to play IMO.

$10 fix

Seriously, any 5 button mouse (2 normal, 2 web browsing, and the scroll bar) works well. Or you can simply remap the scroll wheel press to a weapon group and learn to hit Z to zoom (or remap that)

The ranges match better in this Protector build, optimal range being 450m with some extra punch up close and some extra CBills using the TAG:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e020bc5429d28ec

@Bront: For you maybe, not for me. My mouse has 7 buttons and is an expensive gaming mouse with great accuracy and reliability. I still can't press these extra mouse buttons reliably enough. I come out very frequently at the top of the leaderboard after matches, thus when I say "I can't do it" I mean: It limits my ability, is rather a burden than help etc etc. Also the ranges of the weapon groups in the stock Protector don't match at all, I think it's a very silly build. Hard to play for the player in almost every regard.

I'd compare it to Cataphract/Jager scaling-wise.

Hitbox-wise, the CT is a little big, but it's Atlas/Cataphract big, not Awesome/Kintaro big. Pilots seem to be able to defend it pretty effectively with torso rolling.

With that in mind, here's the sort of build I'm excited about:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b05d93e0d6f08b6

I feel like asymmetrical loadouts have a lot of potential here. You don't have JJ turns like the Highlander, but you do have a reasonably fast engine that should help your torso twist speed.

I agree that more than 2 weapon groups is bad unless its a special situation. Side mouse buttons tend to throw my aim off a bit.

My Current build. Hits like a the old gauss cata. 30pt alpha to one location.

The MAD's AC/5 has always been in the RT (it needs to be; the AC/5 takes up four criticals, but there are only two criticals available in the CT); it's just that the artwork it used (the Glaug Officer's Pod from Macross) showed a machine that had a dorsally-mounted "78mm (3.08 in) Roiquonmi anti-warship electron beam cannon".

Just tried running this build, and I gotta say the UAC5 and the AC2 work pretty well together. It's between this build and one with double AC5s that I'm running my protector with atm. So far it feels alot better than the initial standard engine AC20 variants that I ran.
