The best Orion build is an AS7-D-DC?

3rd build worked best for me.
2xLL lbx10 2xsrm4 std 300. good mid range range punch and a great close uppercut.

*** Oh yeah, and AMS too.

That's pretty much what I have on my Protector, except with only 3 Energy Hard I have 3 MPL instead.

My question is: Is smurfy accurate with the missile tubes on the protector? When I look at the protector in mechlab I see 2x3=6 tubes, not 20 and an additional 10. This makes a huge difference to its viability IMO.

I can confirm now myself: The Orion has these nice multi-tube missile hardpoints ;) Strong mech!

Try Gauss (3 tons) + LRM20/Artemis (3 tons) + 2 Medium Lasers with Ferro+Endosteel. Very strong :P

Probably one default thing to come with for brawling:

I do like this Mech, not sure yet if it will have a place in 12 man competitive drops. But I have had a lot of fun in random pub drops with it. So far most of my death's are to CT being cored so the XL engine does not seem to be a liability.

PROTECTOR

I only have 18 drops in it so far, but it seems to be doing ok. Can not wait to try some of the great builds you guys have posted.

I like to be able to run midrange support mechs with the ability to get in and brawl. Came up with this guy: SRMs are too wonky right now, so I ditched them.

ON1-K
this ones kind of different:

Don't look any further, this build is like Christmas:

Autobot9000's Christmas build
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4557d8414ba3c16
  • XL 350
  • Endosteel
  • U/AC5 /w 100 ammo
  • SRM6+Artemis /w 100 ammo
  • LRM20+Artemis /w 360 ammo
  • 2 ML
  • 12 DHS
Whenever you look at your weapon setup you think it's Christmas To ice the cake your mech is extremely fast and very well armored. This combination also makes unique use of the Orion's/Protector's hardpoints. It's not reproducible with Victors, Cataphracts or others. It's simply like Christmas.

That is awesome. Those hard points are making it tempting to pick up a protector.

Best thing is: You fire those missiles in a single volley. No choppy stuff like with those 3F stalkers trying to bring an LRM20.

Totally. As soon as I saw this thing I had to have it and play warhammer. I dropped dual mg's in the torso and a sl along side the srm6. But I'm just not doing so hot with it.

Right now I'm running standard 300 (while I grind the cash for a big XL) with Ac/20, 2ml, erll, and srm4.
The erll lets me get into the fight at the start
The ac/20 and srm4 are linked and provide the kill shot.

Though not the biggest fan of LRMs, gotta say your build looks interesting Autobot (good name too, as the orion does look like Omega Supreme imo B)). Might give it a whirl later, but sticking with my build currently, and it's going pretty damn well, almost did 920ish dmg last game with 3 kills. This mech shaping up to be one of my new favorites hehe.

Also considering the upped survivablity after switching to the XL360, and the good heat handling of the build I posted, I dropped a heatsink in favor of 1 more ton of UAC5 ammo. Maybe I'm not the best shot, but even with the occasional jamming, I've actually run out of UAC5 ammo quite a few times, so the extra ton there helps.

The UAC5 and AC2 work very well together immo, I have them firing in the same group, non chained mainly. And have a backup group with the AC2 alone for sniper/LRM harrass (very seldomly used).

Yeah, it's my favorite mech I must say. Particularly this array of honey weapons LRM20/SRM6/UAC5/MLs it's just too efficient and good to be ignored B)

I'm enjoying this build at the moment, though I had to drop the UAC5 for a plain AC5.

While that might be heresy to some, my somewhat unstable ping and trigger finger make UAC5's unreliable at best when you need them the most.

I was having a terrible time with this 'Mech until I ran dual AC5's, dual ML's and survived surprisingly long with the XL350 making it pretty quick for its size.

I was thinking either of these for a Protector. Will still have to try them out when I eventually pick one up:

Multi-purpose herd-walker:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9f0361805934955

LRM boat with backup weapons (can launch 35 LRMs at once and enough ammo to do so around 30 times in a match). Enough punch to be effective if/when the game gets tight:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...1ab4dafac243a37

Both are theory-hammered but not tested, but similar builds have worked on my other mechs.
