Why is it that you cant buy an engine larger than 300 with the AWS-8Q? With PPC's not working as intended in any way and on the nerf buff rollercoaster. It makes the Awesome a bad choice for anyone but even worse with an engine size nerf/penalty? What is going on with this and is there other Mechs with this problem? As I dont want to spend money or CB's on a lame duck Mech.

Awesome's are tricky beasts..

There is innumerable threads about why they're not as good as they should be, but they can in the right hands be a hard hitting monster.

Essentially the problem is the hard points are all over the place, the centre/side torso hit boxes are massive, and they slow down about as fast as a 50000 ton oil tanker.. Plus the ghost heat PPC nerf really hasn't done them any favors.

That said The 8R is pretty much the best LRM boat in the game, The 9m and 8Q can be devastating in a pro players hands and the Pretty Baby when given a 400XL is (in my opinion) the most fun you can have in any assault.

So yeah its often looked on as a lame duck, and I certainly wouldn't suggest any new players to get one till they are really comfortable with 'quirky' mechs. But if you have the patience to stick with it and grind out the basics in them they can be a hella lot o' fun.

My PB still has the highest win rate and second highest KDR of all the 'Mechs I pilot, something like 1.6 and 2.0. It's beaten only by my 8R with a KDR of 3.5 due to lol lurms. I would say that the XL 400 is a waste of space for the meager speed boost you get ( you will still outrun assaults with either engine, and still be caught by heavies with either engine ). Here's my PB build:

My 9M is in the same boat, being that i'm inexplicably better in it than most of my other mechs.

IMHO, the 9M and PB are the only truly viable Awesomes (the honey badger being one possible exception).

It isn't just the speed, it's the space; you can fit more heatsinks in bigger engines, which makes far more sense for an energy platform.

I've really been having trouble with my 9M these past couple days. A shame because it was really a favorite of mine but I just can't seem to find a build that works for me anymore.

Can you guys recommend some builds please?

Also, how many missle tubes does the PB's left arm actually have? If it fires off a double SRM6 in one volley I'd actually consider buying it...

If you get the PB make sure the first thing you get is Hard Brake because that extra 10% deceleration is hideous, and absolutely noticeable. Otherwise a very fun mech, although the Dragon Slayer is more fun as it goes 90KPH with JumpJets making you a little more surviveable.

Thanks for the tip Dontor. Its definitely one of the weirder quirks.

I've always really liked the Awesome so overall its more appealing to me than the Dragon Slayer. On the other hand if I can't fire a full triple SRM6 volley in one super shotgun blast I'm probably gonna pass.

This is what I had in mind.

Although I am not an Awesome pilot (or really an Assault pilot at that), as an observer, the Awesome strikes me as an Assault that is more like a Heavy (similar to the Victor). Basically a mech less for tanking (like most Assaults), and more like a fast mover that can put down good damage and move quick.

I think that is why it is a mech that has a bad reputation. It's playstyle is hard for many Assault pilots to wrap their head around.

That being said though, I do think the Awesome has a CT that is a bit large.

I'm no lore guy but I've been doing my reading since playing MW:O. Am I incorrect in stating that the original Awesome WAS A PPC BOAT? Funny if you think about it. It was balanced in the tabletop but with all the fun measures introduced lately into MW:O it's pretty much a very suboptimal 'mech.

But now that I think about it, the Awesome was pretty awesome indeed in MW4/Mercs. What happened?
