Hi,

I was messing around looking for an Orion Build and I come up with this. I believe simple but effective. near max armour , AMS and 3 x Large pulse Laser with 51% heat efficiency, this thing can PEW-PEW for ever and a day ;)

Thoughts , suggestions high quality flaming appreciated.

Have a good day and I will see you in game.

I'm always rather.. Sceptical, of a build I can't alpha if/when it comes to it, especially when the ghost heat from an alpha with that build would be 4.28, plus you'd have to expose your CT for longer for chain firing.

I'd probably build it something like this, if you wanted to stick with the LPL theme PROTECTOR.
If it was me I'd probably drop a DHS in my build for another ton of SRM ammo though, however that is the players choice, I'd also go with the XL350 to save a little tonnage and have the best of both worlds for a mere 2.3 drop in KPH with speak tweak, oh and you can max your leg armour, because you just have that little bit extra tonnage, here is what I mean PROTECTOR.

I should also note though that my builds usually evolve around a x00/x25/x50/x75 engine rating for the slots in the engine for extra DHS, so that could warp my view point.

No UAC5? You guys are doing it all wrong! LPL in each arm, dual SRM4 w/1 ton ammo, UAC5 w/4 tons ammo, standard 300 for survivability (upgrade to XL if you want for better cooling) and fill the rest of the tonnage with heat sinks. Dakka AND wub. It works well.

Same dps. Same alpha (basically). But better range and more survivability. PROTECTOR
OR this which is a straight upgrade. PROTECTOR

Having not played one (really just from looking at one) I'm not sure I'd want an XL engine with those torsos. That second build does look mean though.

I assure you, the XL engine will not hamper with your survivability unless you enjoy running in first on every fight. Just stay near something bigger or flank. The XL allows you to chase down medium mechs with ease, flank and circle slower mechs, and ups twisting and turning speeds, which both enhances your dmg dealing capabilities and defensive abilities.

From over 50 games played I've maybe died two or three times from having my side torso destroyed, and even then it was either me being somewhere I shouldn't have been or I've taken enough dmg all over the place anyways B).

Help a noob out would ya pls. I can't figure out how you guys are putting in XL engines into the center torso with only 8 slots available, the xl 320 requires 12 slots. Is there a way to create more slots?

No there is no way to create slots. You can free up slots by removing Ferror-Fibrous Armor or Endosteel structure, if you should have equipped these (they take 14 slots each). Open your Protector in the mechlab ("Loadout"), on the right of your screen (under "Weapon Systems") click on the symbol that displays a mech together with a "+" sign. Here you find Endosteel/Ferro-Fibrous. If your criticals allow you only one of the two, then always choose Endosteel.

Note: Engines can store an additional heatsink every 25 increment of their engine rating, e.g. a 300 engine can store 2 extra heatsinks, 325 stores 3 extra heatsinks and so on. That's why most people refrain from buying expensive XL engines, that have no X times 25 engine rating.

XL engines only put 6 slots in the CT, and 3 each in the sides. If that's what you're asking.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I had no idea that the XL's took up 3 slots in the side torso. Make's sense now, destroying side torso with XL = death. ;)

Looking forward to trying: ON1-K http://mwo.smurfy-ne...03ca1d9d2b9964b

360XL + 4 LPL + 12 2xHS at 40% heat efficiency, which can be lived with.

Wow LOL, I was about as sharp as a baby seal's a** when I did that! Thanks for calling that out.

Yeah OK let's put some armor on that; http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e84aefa1abdd4f4

350XL + 2LL + 2LPL. Heat efficiency up to 44% with alpha (39.2) and DPS (4.29) slightly down. Reaches 83kph with tweak.
Not as fun I think now. maybe I'll try again later.

Same as above except drop 2LL + 1 DHS. Add 1 LPL + 1 ASRM6. Better DPS in close while trading off long range.

Just some of the builds I have saved ready to try out (armour is subject to change)

Protector - works surprisingly well considering, 3 weapon groups, 1 for each laser to shoot round corners easier & 1 for the AC20.
ON1-K (MAD-3R) or ON1-K (MAD-5M(-JJ))
ON1-VA

One of the biggest reasons I don't use XLs. The extra tonnage is Nice, but you lose a lot of durability (I face palm EVERY time I see a Stalker or Atlas run XL.

There are some mechs that you just should never run XL on, and the Stalker and Atlas are two of those.
