I won't be buying MC any more till PGI gets their act together. However, I would love to see the Urbie make it in game.

How would you balance a light mech that is slower than most assaults?

Easy:
- make it ***-cheap
- make it small
- mount the arms really high
- give it AMS/ECM-option

To recap: A tiny Mech with an AC/20 that can easily shoot over hills and support teammates.

For starters:
  • Tiny size (i.e. fat Commando)
  • Lots of hardpoints (for boating small weapons like MGs and ML)
  • Jumpjets that are actually good for JUMPING instead of our current slow hover-mode (go MWLL style)
  • Crazy fast turning, twisting, and acceleration
  • 4-5 module slots
  • Higher engine limit than what PGI's current formula allows for--PGI's formula restricts the Urbie to an 85-rated engine, and that would have REALLY bad results. For reference, a 100-rated engine would give a Spider (same tonnage) a speed for 59.4 kph after speed tweek is applied. I'd give the Urbie an engine limit somewhere around 150-170
  • Change the engine rules so that all 10 required base heat sinks are built into the damned engine, thereby not gimping the Urbie with artificially inflated critical slot usage
  • Tonnage limits and/or some other mechanic that makes lights and mediums more economical

Isn't the base version of the Urbie rocking an AC10 and not an AC20? I know there was a version that had an AC20, but that's not the standard.

Oh man, I just hope they implement the Urbie so I can rack up tons of kills. Do it, PGI! I need to bump up my KDR!

I think you could make the Urbie work with several tweaks that wouldn't be game-breaking.

Decouple the Urbie's torso twist and turn speed with it's engine rating. Give it a nice, quick torso twist and decent turn speed (that's fixed and can't be improved) and leave the pathetic engine as it is. Urbie's are slow but we love them anyway.

As previously mentioned, a good hardpoint loadout would help.

Give the Urbie 3+1 module slots. Artillery! Airstrikes! UAV! Seismic! (it needs all the help it can get!)

Once we get quirks, quirk the heck out of the Urbie.

Once we get CW, make Urbies a reduced 'drop weight' for defensive missions. If it only counts as 20 tons, nobody'll care if you take it as you're a good dedicated base defender.

Make an Urbie (C) model that can be purchased for C-Bills.

Or, best of all, give one, Mastered Urbie away to everyone who fought their way through Open Beta ...

The Urbie variants that could be implemented in MWO (i.e. are canon in the timeline) are:
* UM-R60, the stock variant, with an AC/10 and a Small Laser
* UM-R60L, with less armour, an AC/20 and a ton of ammo, and a Small Laser.
* UM-R63 with an LB-10X and which "replaces the MG"* with a Small Pulse Laser.

* Since there's no record of a Urbie with a MG this is somewhat baffling, but it has been canonized as that the UM-R63 had a precursor with AC/10 and MG (which doesn't have an official designation).

So at the very least the Urbie would have 2 ballistic and 1 energy hardpoint.

Edit: And yes, I want one. Or three :)

Edit 2: I just remembered I already have one. In a top hat with a cigar, no less:

Give it 360 degree torso twist.

I'd like to see the Urbanmech as an Easter Egg mech or otherwise special deployment... Maybe if you equip a Spider 5K with an AC/10 and a small laser with a 100 STD engine, you instead spawn in the match as an Urbanmech?
Maybe in a Base Defence scenario, if you die when on the defending team, and don't have a full DropShip of mechs, you respawn as an Urbanmech to defend the base?

Skye Rangers Urbanmech 'Boom Boom' about 3050.

I love the 360 torso twist idea.

I'm sure it'll come at some point, after all they already got the model sort of finished; sitting in my Ilya with hat and cigar
My Christmas santa/atlas seems just like a real mech model too, except with a costume and custom paint job
