I'm new and I've bought two Jenners, an F and a D. If I grind up the basic pilot efficiencies in the D and then sell the D, do I still get credit for the D efficencies going toward unlocking the elite efficiencies?

Also I read that internal engine heat sinks (xl300 has 2 slots for instance) have 2.0 heat reduction instead of 1.4 for double heat sinks. Is that information still true?

You need to unlock the Elite skills on 3 Mechs to unlock Master, after that you may sell them without loosing the Bonus .

So the currently earned efficiencies for that mech type disappear if you sell the mech you earned them on before you hit master?

I unlocked basics on two HBK varients, sold one to buy a third and was able to keep the credit torwards unlocking Elites, so yes you can work on two jenners, sell one and buy the third you need for Elite.

Yes.

No. The internal heatsinks are the "invisible" heatsinks. So 10 for a 250 engine, 9 for a 225 etc. The extra slots in the engine just allow you to save crit slots.

Yes and no. The 10 internal heat sinks which are integral to the engine are at 2.0 All others even in the engine will be 1.4. And you will need to skill up the K as well to unlock Master Slots.

Though that whole thing is just SO confusing. But yes, if you do not want to invest in Mech bays you keep what you earned on your sold mech ito experience tree.
I recommend buying at least 3 Mech bays for skilling up your mechs.

Believe what Braddack is referring to is what happens when you want to unlock Master on a weight class. For the Lights, you'd need to be Elite on three different types of mech chassis (EG. Jenner, Raven, Commando) before you can then unlock the Master option for the entire weight class.

edit: spelling

@Tinfoil:
No. You can skill up only Jenner and unlock Master. I did that.

Yes, the efficiencies you have in a mech still count toward unlocking the next tier on other mechs even if you sell them. So it is actually possible to elite and master a mech with only one mech bay available. But I don't recommend it.

Keep your F and D, and buy the JR7-K as soon as you can. If you're new, you should have 4 mech bays so having 3 of a mech around shouldn't be an issue. The fact is, you need to buy all 4 elites on 3 mechs in the same weight class in order to unlock mastery. Using the same 3 mechs you used to unlock elite is the most efficient way of doing so for your first mastery. Once you unlocked mastery, you can sell the two you don't want. Yes, variants of the same mech chassis also count as mechs in the same weight class, so you can do it that way.

For Elite, you need 3 varians of the same chasis with 8/8 Basics. (if you can sell your first 8/8 Jenner, possible)
For Mastery, you need 3 variants in this weight class with 4/4 Elite.

I had 2 Jenners (D and F) and a Raven 3L at 8/8 and had to get me the third Jenner to 8/8 Basic (spend my GXP) to get the Jenners to Elite.
And as I wanted to master my Raven, i got two more ravens to 8/8 Basic (spend my GXP).

Then I had the two jenners and the Raven at 4/4 Elite = 3 Light mechs to unlock Mastery.
Then I sold my Jenner K and the Raven 2X and 4X.

Just remember if your D is Sarah's Mech you will not be able to sell it (you mentioned xl300 engine and Double Heat Sinks). However, since that mech has it's own bay, it shouldn't be in your way to getting other mechs.
