An interesting theory but one that doesn't make sense from a business standpoint for the following reasons; F2P is not yet a mature business model in the console platform and it is not clear that Microsoft will do as well as Sony next generation especially outside of North America. Given its size and comfort level with risk why do you think PGI will be the one to undertake this idea? Even World of Tanks and Planetside 2 had clearly refined PC versions before announcing console vesions, they were/are not being developed in secret.

Thank you for the reply, Spheroid. I think the reason it will be done for the xboxone is that they already have a distribution system set up for getting the game out. I am assuming the equivalent of xbox live will be on the new console. I am inclined to believe that Microsoft wants as many goodies as they can have with their new system at launch, especially ones they aren't directly paying for. It would not be anything for them to have a link, such as those on steam, for a game that can be downloaded and played for free. This is wild speculation here, but I also do not think that Microsoft would have given them much choice.

I believe the reason for secrecy behind development would be that this is Mechwarrior. This game franchise goes back to 1989 on DOS. It has a fanatical following of dedicated fans, and I count myself as one of them. Now I imagine that fanbase learning the game is going to be ported to a console.

On a side note: I think this helps explain why the dev team has appeared to have been less than concerned about what the current player-base thinks. I mean no offense by that to PGI or the employees who haven't openly mocked us, but if you consider the appeal of a free to play for a casual console gamer who is bored on a Tuesday night, I think you will get my idea. This could bring a massive injection of players that maybe one in twenty might buy something is still a significant revenue opportunity.

This theory is one that I really hope is incorrect, at least until they get CW out, but I have a bad feeling might be true. If they tie in CW with adding XboxOne support for more players, I think that both sides could benefit. If console support comes out before CW... I think there would be a total meltdown on the forums and trust/faith in PGI would be permanently lost.

IDK what would happen if console support comes in the near future, but if the community gets this riled up about 3rd person view and ghost heat, I don't want to find out what happens if they do add support.

There is another MWO on Xboxone thread here http://mwomercs.com/...mwo-to-xbox360/ where some pointed out that microsoft requires user to play on xbox only servers. If this is true then it shouldn't matter if MWO ends up on consoles because we won't be playing with them .

Just because there wouldn't be cross-platform play doesn't mean it doesn't matter.

Sometimes updates get delayed until they can get pushed through on all platforms, or game design decisions get biased towards the users of a certain platform over another one. Just a couple examples.

mainly PC user get the short end of the stick when a console version of the game is included.
I'm sure there are far too many examples of this to even pick one.

Good points, still I'm personally not going to worry about it. Right now this just all rumors and wild speculation.

Thanks. I agree that we shouldn't get all jumpy about it. It is just speculation. I have an eye for jigsaw puzzles and think I'm starting to get the corners together in my head.

Xboxone Is The Answer.

Everytime I read the title of this thread I think it says Xboneone.

If MWO appears on any console i will leave this game and never look back. That will be the last straw for me.

They said PC ONLY. If they go back on that I am outie 5000.

Star Citizen is already calling to me. And when RSI says PC only, i'm betting they mean it.

When PGI says that their releasing a month early to dodge the Console releases they are lying to you.

They are really doing it to dodge the start of a new season of pony that will absorb the entirety of their player base. This is the terrible truth that they are hiding from you. They know who the true competition for your love, attention and scorn are.

Embrace the truth or live on in denial.

I like the idea.

Console players will have a much more difficult time crying in chat about HAX!

F2P is the way to go. You can read that all over the internet. And F2P on consoles will be the next big thing.
Its even possible this game is originally a Box-Game and we are playing the PC port. Would explain the awful performance, too.

lol, xbox users in MWO...

no really, this game has a rather steep learning curve, it took them over a year to make a modest movement tutorial, where you have to _read_ more than one sentence at a time and no voice-over tells you what to do.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but i doubt the common xbox player will get it, how this game works. Everything on consoles has been dumbed down in the last years, you cannot loose a game or anything ingame because that would be sooo frustrating for the player, who has an attention span of 10 seconds.

(Maybe thats not how the players actually are, but that is what you get from console game makers everyday and it conditions the players into this form).

MWO on consoles would hit the ground before it launches. :D

If the reason for the launch date is to avoid hype generated by the new consoles downstream then releasing the same day as GTA V (which is gonna headline all the gaming magazines and games press) means what exactly?

good hypothesis except they are not launching anything next week . Won't they want buzz when (if) they release UI2 which is now right on top of console release (of course, they will delay UI2 to next year but you get my point)

MWO is not coming to consoles, though Bryan isn't ruling it out.

https://twitter.com/...051245183545344

Seriously, people took his previous comments and blew it all out of proportions. Though that shouldn't be surprising as people have been blowing Bryan's comments out of proportions for a while now. But it is clear that PGI wanted to avoid releasing near the time the consoles will be released as the consoles and their related releases will such up all of the press's attention.

So they are releasing on the same day as GTA5? Rockstar announced that release date in January. If they wanted to get some press attention...that was a poor choice.

Personally speaking, I dont care they can put it where they like as long as it dosnt effect me negatively (*Coughcbillnerfcough*) though I am rooting for the PS4 and want to see the xboxone burn to the ground.

Coincidentally my 360 is for sale, anyone? anyone? no? balls.

What press attn. are you exactly talking about? Have not seen a word about this launch outside this community. J/W
