First post so sorry if it's in the wrong place but I was wanting to get thoughts on this game build: Intel i5 4670k 3.4ghz, ASUS Z87-A LGA 1150 mobo, ASUS GTX 660 2gb, 750w Corsair Power Supply, G.Skill Ripsaw 8gb ram( And I've heard that even if you have more than 16gb ram with a basic Windows 7 OS you wont be using all of it. true or false? Either way I'm buying Windows 7 Pro for this build, screw Windows 8 making everything look like a smartphone)....This will be my first build and just wanted to know if MWO will be playable on the highest settings with decent FPS and no troubles with the upcoming DirectX 11 installment. Others notes internet isn't a problem it's pretty ***** fast just would like to know the best modem/router combo for peak performance(budget wise) for cable internet 50/50 devices use wifi the others are hardline. Thanks for any input guys and thank god MechWarrior is back in my life, I thought it was dead for the longest time.... FPS750SUS InIn

I'm trying to find a combo from newegg.com that comes with a higher GPU without breaching 1k

Shrink the power supply: http://extreme.outer...culatorlite.jsp

But careful of whom you chose: http://www.hardocp.c...power_supplies/

'Tom's Hardware']Why not the new Core i7-4770K? As Chris covered in his launch story, it's really not all that impressive compared to Core i7-3770K. You need an LGA 1150-based motherboard to support it, and Intel currently wants $30 more for it. We're passing on making Haswell a recommendation for now.

Needs more GPU.

I vote for an HD7950 at the moment since it's equal to a GTX760 but costs less.

Definitely up the GPU. You've got an amazing CPU and motherboard combo there that will overclock simply and reliably, but the GPU is the heart of a gaming system.

To know what type of monitor will you be using? - Resolution? Refresh rate? 60hz? 120+hz?

For a typical 1920x1080 (or less) monitor running at typical 60hz with mid to high in-game settings:
If you prefer Nvidia - the (just released) GTX 760 is very good bang for the $$.
If you prefer AMD/ATI - as Narcissistic Martyr mentioned the HD7950 is the great bang for the $$ card now.

If running higher resolutions, or want all settings maxed at 1080p... while still keeping the framerate smooth for the front line fights...
GTX 770 is an excellent High end card for the $$.

If you are running a 120hz screen, ultrawide 29" display, or a triple monitor setup ... well that's an entirely different conversation. You'll want to toss at much GPU power at the system as you possible can... GTX 780, HD7990, or the monstrous GTX Titan.... sadly it seems SLI doesn't really have a benefit for MWO.

if u r not intend to do some overclock ( which is 90% of gamers don't ), then why z87 and k series CPU. Even if u do OC, u need to spend some bucks for the heatsink, and in this case, it not budget at all. So if u aim for a budget system, use h87 and 4570 instead. And as some mention before, the fact that 4570 ain't do any thing next to "impresive" compared to 3570, I myself suggest a 3570 with h77 or z77 mainboard (some manufature make h77 with crappy components so z77 is more recommended )

yes up your GPU to the 660Ti, i am running it now and i have the game basically maxed out on settings and it hasnt skipped a beat..... as southernob said you probably dont need the K model cpu, I am using the same cpu u have there but it is not the K model and i am running 12G RAM..... so if u cut your cpu down a bit to be able to afford a 660Ti you are laughing

DrPhil

If you haven't built you rig yet, I would suggest you checkout MicroCenter, their CPU costs run 60-100$ cheaper than Newegg's. Their prices match or beat newegg's on most other hardware also. I build a new box every year and I mix and match using these two stores on my yearly new builds. Newegg's main appeal to me is no taxes and free shipping.

Buy an i7 chip from microcenter and go with 16 gigs of ram of at least 1600mhz. (most discount ram is all the same)

Get a 7950 or a GTX760, what ever is cheaper.
Also you don't need a 750w PSU, drop it to a 500w to save money.

AS has been mentioned before, you need to decide why you are getting a 4670k.

If you plan to overclock, you will get far more out of a Ivy or Sandy Bridge (3770k or 2500k) as thier memory controller is'nt built onto the chip. Having a memory controller built onto the chip makes it overheat far faster and you well find that even with the best cooling, your chip will have a hotspot where the memory controller is that will hugely limit your OC to far lower than the generations below, meaning you can make them go faster.

If you don't plan to OC, get a 4670 non K and save yourself some money. It's exactly the same chip just not unlocked for OC. You'll still need a heatsink though as Intel's are terrible and are really designed to lower the life of your chip (making you buy a new one when it dies).

Also get a 660ti or a 560ti. I can run this game maxed out of a 560ti but it comes down below 30fps very occasionally (multiple enemies onscreen and one very up close firing)

Some good, some bad info in this thread.

If your not overclocking, the stock heat sink will be fine, You also don't need the K series chip save some money by dropping down to a locked chip currently on newegg $20 cheaper than it's k counterpart.
Ivybridge chips are again slightly cheaper -10-20$.

You also don't need that large a PSU, so again can save a large amount here, and 8GB of RAM is fine, you'll never get near 8GB at the current time.

The savings you make, can beef up the GPU

Very similar to my new system. Same CPU, almost the same MoBo (got the Z87-Plus), got the same GPU and also have 8 GB of DDR3, 1600 RAM. I run a 650W PSU which seems more than enough for my setup (1x200mm LED fan, 2x140mm LED fans, 2x120 mm fans, Corsair H60 cooler). And that's with the CPU OCed to 4.1/4.2.

Running Win 8 64 on an OCZ SSD and the overall performance is more than adequate for MWONL, IMO. Got everything maxed out except motion blur, resolution is 1920x1080 and I'm usually getting between 70 - 80 FPS online. Except for River City, but that map seems to kill everyone's FPS.

I'm probably a bit late posting this, but I'd stick with the 660 (or get a 760 if you want to spend more). The Ti-version just isn't worth the extra $/€ over the regular 660.

PSU 500-600w is fine.
GPU 760 or R9 280X
CPU 4670k is fine. (get a aftermarket cooler for OC'ing)
MB: Z87 Asus or Gigabyte
RAM: 8-16gb 1600mhz CL9 or better.
OS: W7 (or 8 if u really want it) 64bit.
(W7 Home Premium can handle up to 16gb, Basic is only 8gb, progfessional and higher can take 128gb, W8 can take 128gb to 512gb)
