All the drop settings could be generated randomly when the player presses Launch. The planet would be just one in contention.

Players pick a chassis or weight class like always, and press "Launch Mission", etc.

Then ELO picks the players and they are given the mission perameters which would at least tell them the Map and the faction (faction could be neutral, allied or their own). Mercs might get a fee for their services. The Mission Info could be delivered to players on a computer monitor. Something cool and 31st century looking that opens out of the UI side panel.

Then players are given 3-5 minutes for Mechlab with timer and launch warning countdown if they overstay. If they don't click "Ready" by the end of the final countdown, the Dropship leaves without them.

I am not sure if you have something like this planned or not, but I think this would get PUG players more involved and allow them to configure their mechs for the actual Map/Mission ahead. You might enable a voice comm or just a chat area with team and group chat while they are Mechlab-ing. Chat definately.

You could add more parameters as time goes by, but knowing the Map would enable Mechlab as a tactical element. That makes MechWarrior a much deeper game and puts players in control of alot of team involvment elements even though it's just a PUG. Perhaps they form a permanent group of Mercs etc. so they can be ranked against the other Units.

Anyway, I just wanted to suggest a way PUG players could play drops with mission parameters they could prepare for.

I once looked a good deal into the Devs' role warefare ideas and other plans for the future, and I don't remember every seeing an idea quite like this one.....i like it. :) , if anything, it'd give us a chance to do more diverse things and not the same assault over and over again.

It would be an easy step that could be expanded on. Initially you are giving PUG teams the ability to Chat about strategies and create mech loadouts for a specific map before dropping onto it. Seems the basic essentials for Community Warfare and would add alot of interactivity between players and the game.

I don't know what PGI is planing for CW and PUGs, but it seems like this would be an easy upgrade to ELO.

Now I am reading MWO is launching without so many of the features that would deepen gameplay and player involvement, which is okay, I am sure they will be added when they are working. However what I am suggesting here seems like it could be setup and utilize ELO matchmaking by adding just a few vital features.

As a MechWarrior PvP League player for MW3 and MW4 I can tell you that Mechlab for a specific map, prior to the drop, is where most of the chatting or talking about strategy occurs and you really need that added depth and communication between players to build the MWO community.
