Hi

I don't know if other people have noticed this but lately there seems to be few mechs in game every now and then that play like total idiots and seem to be bot like. They have some common features:

1. they shoot beyond their weapon range, like trying to shoot medium lasers to 1300m or so.

2. play style is very controlled, they shoot in the middle, aim is methodical and they move aim "slowly" compared to "normal", they don't make quick moves in general or seem to react to situations like normal players

3. They do not respond to chat messages, they are just quiet, people try to say to them that "you need to go closer etc." because they play so oddly.

At first i thought they were just newbies and dont know how to play, but i started to wonder why they were so similar and none of them never respond to any chat messages.

Weird? Is this somekind of account selling method, someone created bots to do money?

Anyone else seen anything like this?

I didn't know if this is the right forum, there doesn't seem to be general discussion forum anymore and only thing i could think of was that they affect balance.

(Why there isn't general discussion forum????)

1. Maybe they are newbs (or just want to fool around with their lasers before the fight)
2. Maybe they are using Joysticks (slower more mechanical movements compared to mouse)
3. Maybe they either dont want to communicate or dont understand English.

I cant guess at if they are bots or not, But im sure that there are players out there who use aimbots and other "hacks", but they would behave completely different to your explpanation (Especially point 2).

1. happens all over the fight, thats the thing, no one overheats mech for fun in middle of fight.

2. and 3. could be, but i have seen that too often grouped with 1. to bee coincidence, and different player names. Not once has the player responded to messages.

I think i'll start writing the player names down and do some research more.

It just wasn't his day. It wasn't his fault. He was just stressed from work and his troubled marriage. Match after match he lost. But he just couldn't bring himself to walk away from the computer.

But then it started to happen. The other mechs started to act strangely. Jerkily moving. Following set patterns without thought.

Bit by bit his team and the enemy team began to fill with zombies. He had descended into the before unknown ELO bracket of the souless ones.

I'd say that those are just newbs who can't speak english/have yet to master controls/are afraid to respond to messages because of imminent combat.

I saw similar behavior when I showed the game to my friend and he played a couple of matches. He took time to aim, accidentaly shot weapons and his movement was slow and mechanical because at first he couldn't properly manage legs & torso movement.

Everyone's gotta start somewhere, just imagine if you started playing MWO without ever having played a previous mechwarrior game. Even worse if you've never played any other mecha type game.

Doesn't matter to me what skill they are, just hoping the matchmaker will get to the point where I won't see them much if at all :P

New players, give them slack and advice. Keep playing and you'll hopefully get away from noob-bracket in ELO.

Whilst not the same as you describe, I've definately seen a batch of bots ~6 months back in the game. Haven't seen them for a long time since though,

I'm curious as to how the bots acted.

I know there are people cheating in MWO. Every game has its unfair share of cheaters. With that being said I've never seen any blatant identifiable cheating. I've seen some questionable things but I've never said, that was a wall hack head shot at 1800 meters.

I agree that it's typically a novice/bad player. Given how ****** up the matchmaker is, you can expect a fair number of people literally on their first match.

Sound like noobs more than bots. The no talking thing could be either non-english speaking or so new that they don't know the keys to chat (y, t, u)

I haven't seen any bots yet. Only seen AFKers. Oh, and a speed hacker once.

I know I am one of those that responds to or even ignore chat. Before battles I may read texts but during the heat of combat I pretty much ignore it because of focusing solely on fighting/survival....sure, there are a minute few that seem to move 'peculiar' but I mark them as new combatants or testing new weapons/firing order.

Do those bots that exhibit bad behavior talk **** when you shame them? If so... not a bot. That's how you tell.

Any bot that acts like that is basically a free kill, so I don't really know what the advantage to something like that would even be.

Bingo... bots that grind while some scrub is at work basically grind nothing, because zero damage and causing your team to lose = diddly Cbills.

Basically over the course of a couple of weeks I saw players with the same name suffixed with '1' '2' '3' , etc, etc, sometimes alone, sometimes multiples in one match.
They would pretty much just circulate around the base or blindly follow a nearby friendly, they'd only ever engage when weapons were under optimum range - I recall once standing just outside the upper base on River city watching two of them, they all had short range (<270m) weapons, as soon as I got within 270m they'd target my CT and fire, if I backed off to 275m - still out in the open as a clear shot - they'd just stand there waiting until I moved around and got back into 270m of range again.
