I cling to it because it is my Mini-Madcat. I was doing as high as 2.0KDR with it too, but something changed down the line and it has been difficult to do well in it for months. I have been tinkering with the loadouts, but it is currently at 1.7KDR and sliding.
I am currently using 2LLasers, 2MLasers, and 2 LRM10s (with JJ). Its descent, but *sigh* just not doing good enough.
Why can't I quit you!!

other one is my BJ-1X, i like the speedy medium thing (appears my preferred speed is 90-110kph as far as what i can handle) but can't get any consistancy to it, tried every combo of 6-8 ML/SL/SPLs and were kinda generic, now trying 4 MPLs and still generic results. kdr is barely over 1 though my w/l is slightly better.
my BJ-DC is my "good loss" mech. 1.2kdr (yeah that's good for me-but mostly play mediums) but w/l is only .86. on the other side of things my treb 5J (which i'm not fond of so it doesn;t count for this topic) which has a nifty 1.39 w/l to go with it's sad .6 kdr.

Same, working on mastering Highlanders after running the majority of my matches and doing great in a Jenner 7F.
I love the Jenners 'cause zipping around between the hulking frames of my teammates and enemies activates that space-sim part of my psyche where you tear around in a fighter between dueling cap ships.
But I typically do less damage and don't survive the match in a HGH. Which is pretty sad. All the light piloting has brainwashed me into thinking I can escape danger. In an Assault if you deviate from the team its over...which makes it all the more frustrating when your boys are mooing into some {Scrap} position. If you're not confident enough to suggest an alternative, you're stuck trudging along behind hoping for the best.
I have a similar experience running a Catapult K2. Now matter how hard I try to stay in position for long range energy attacks I tend to drift towards the front of the battle lines.

haha I like the "your boys are mooing into some {Scrap} position" - I know it's probably a typo, but they move EXACTLY like a herd of cows!

I love piloting them, love their look etc. Just every time I get in one, i die with 200 damage.

Maybe one day I'll figure out how to not get left behind or creamed because I couldn't turn fast enough to take them out before they do.

My K/D ratios overall are not great, but I usually get top 3 damage per game in my Dragons & Blackjacks, so I cannot claim them as my guilty pleasures. ;-)

I just cannot grasp the "drive-by-shooting' play style needed to play these mech well.
I love to run around and machine-gunning things in my 3C, or backstabing mech with AC/20 in a Wang.
But my Hunchback, Blackjack and even Kintaro always out perform them in damage and survivability.
I love the AWS 8Q, it is the 1 of 3 assault mech that I still keep around my mechbay.
The other being the 8R and STK 3F.

I really wanted to like it. But it is a jack-of-all-trades mech. I like mechs where I can concentrate on only two weapon systems. It looks cool, but I can't use it.
Cataphract was another one. I don't know how anyone hits anything in those things. The arms practically drag on the ground making shots over a ridge practically impossible. And the cockpit might as well have a bullseye painted on it (completely facing foreward, and it is not small). But I like how it looks...like the mutant offspring of a Marauder and a Battlemaster.

I can't for the life of me get the hang of cicadas. I can do "ok" in them, but I need a mech with arms to suit my "driveby" playstyle. To get into the zone for playing a cicada as a fast striker, try watching an old war movie with planes strafing... like Tora Tora Tora or something Hit and git!

Agreed... not a great mech, but the knell is hilariously fun to run soemtimes... it's packing a lot of punch for such a wee mech!

Or I can use a C1 with 2 LL 2 ML and 2 LRM10 (or 15) but it runs too hot when things get up close. I guess I should maybe go back to an LRM boat C1 with 4 ML, but I could pilot a Catapult A1 or Highlander 733P if I want to just lob missiles.
Speaking of which, I want the 733P with 2 PPCs, 2 LL and 3 SSRM2 to work, but it just doesn't. Granted, I didn't try very hard.
