it depends. The flame does well with a STD engine with the AC20 and MLs.

After you saying that it got me curious so i had to try a dragon build with a std engine. Needs those SRM's for zombieing (yeah i know).

Gonna give this a try;

(Its a dragon so it needs a flamer, deal with it lol.)

Hm, it's practically the same build i used in my Flame to no end; and it was viable:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d3ce66bd3b7566b

however; i dropped it like live grenade when i got back in the game about 2 months ago - it doesn't pack much of a punch, but excelled as a skirmisher / flanker. Definitly past tense here; because the massive alphas ingame put an end to this; and without the ability to leg it once the enemy concentrates his fire on you... let's say roasted lizard doesn't go down well.

I loved the DRG from its looks; and always tried to make it work (and voilá, along came the quirked 1N :D ); but from a gut feeling i would strongly advise against any build going less than around 90 kp/h - you need the speed and the torso twist - so this is a 1C replica of my new Flame variant:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...874dbf4e96c8e01

still fast enough, the MPLas give it the necessary punch, and enough ammo to apply the LB-X either as a distraction weapon over long ranges or to hit those internals once the armor is gone. It's still a Dragon, you will die quite often; but there are very few things quite as satisfying as racking up 4 or more kills with a DRG tag now and then ;)

You usally point the narrow end forwards and make sure to keep the hot bits and open ends of Weapons away from small children and other PUG teammates.

My dragon 1C up until recently ran an XL 340 but in order to optimise some of my other 29 mechs, (i have a rule of hero's dictate optimization above all other mechs) it's engine has been stolen for a reshuffle.

My FANG runs an XL300, AC10 (quirks), LPL, ML and SRM6 and does very well. And now my 1C is now engine-less so looking at giving it a STD engine for some up close assault escort duty.

Well, I've had a chance to play a few matches with my dragons. The 5N and 1N run ok with lots of dakka, but I'm having trouble finding a nice build for the 1C. Right now XL340, AC10 & 4x ML works borderline decent, but I feel like I could do better in a hunchback...

Any ideas, please?

Mine looks something like this at the moment: stay back hill hump use that ppc with barely any mech showing at all keep that ppc firing until your team inevitably moves in then get that ac10, medium lasers and flamer to work (yeah flamer). More than enough ammo in the AC10 to fire with careless abandon at anything remotely red or you could do a reshuffle for some more HS.

That is an interesting idea. I was actually thinking I should get something with a longer reach mounted in that shoulder.

But why is the flamer in the arm? Wouldn't it be better in the torso, with both medium lasers in the arm, on chainfire?

Flamers should always be in the arm as you can aim them at the opponents cockpit plus for a flamer to be reasonably useful (sniggers) its far easier to keep them on target whcih is necesarry if their mounted on an arm. If you can use Arm lock effectively such as on a slow target like an assualt then it would make no difference.

Set the PPC to group 1, the AC10 to group 2, the Medium lasers to group 3 and the Flamer to group 4 or add the flamer to the medium laser group if you wish.

Here's my build
Here's the results

Every game is 800+ damage, except those very few chances I'm an idiot and rush forward/get my arm shot off.

If you've ever played a raven with ER Large Lasers; I recommend this build. Dragons are great for shoulder peaking and the side torso mounted weapons should be taken advantage of.

I faced 2 king crabs and a direwhale with only 390 shots of AC5 and nothing else.
Any of you judging the Achilles Heel of getting the one arm getting blown off need to torso twist :>

Dragons will unfortunately always be a support mech, I found mine to be vital after the 3-5 minute mark after shots have been exchanged. The direwhale had only clan ac5's, the king crabs sported the usual dual ac20 and gauss. I use 65 armour at the front CT and 50 armour on the front side torsos. Leaving me with only 6side and 10CT points of armour on the back. In which I honestly keep just for teammates who decide to be trigger happy.

I pretty much only play support mediums, I spend most my time in the Wang and some others. I did have a 1N a long time ago in CB and have thought about getting one again.

Well the Dragons excel most through the DRG-Flame and DRG-1N. Like the centurions (in my opinion), the dragon is a city brawler with good arm articulation. However the giant CT is what will kill your opponent, as the amateur pilots rarely tend to focus on the 65 armour point CT rather than the 45 armour point arms that house the more deadly weaponry.

You'll have to keep in mind that an XL300 engine is the only way you'd get full joy out of running the dragons.

I just ground out $5M bills with my LaMalinche to buy my first 1N and sold off $3M in excess weapons inventory (who needs 12 PPCs? lol) and am about to run into some pug matches. I'm super excited lol

Update: though I didn't get much chance to play over the weekend, a few matches with this build and I have had a couple over 800 damage already and I'm still getting used to the nuances of the mech. LOVE it!
