"You guys?" Let's get something clear here, the name came from a book and I've no [REDACTED] idea what you're blathering on about...but if bragging about defeating random people years ago strokes your little e-peen I'll just ignore your lunatic ravings.

Two foulmouthed ragehards with the same name in two different games. Well the experience will be the same either way. lol

You can bet that with the dx 11 coming that the graphics will be looked at and at least tuned a bit. I have never seen a problem with the graphics so far myself and I take graphics as serious as anyone.

Don't expect MWO's dx11 with exclusive new features like tesselation or HD textures.

It will be just a new code for better performance. Graphics will remain the same. Bryan Eakman told that at a NGNG podcast.

Pffft.

And ******** on the forums made fun of me for constantly bringing up the fact that the maps are all horribly scaled with horribly designed terrain and buildings that make 0 sense, are horrible in scale and design and generally nonsensical.

WHO CAARES, they said.

People who are new to this game and not Gold shills care, because its noticeable; the knee high mech grass, the thousand foot high streetlights, the crappy half assed buildings that make no sense and are seemingly plopped down randomly.

If I wasn't on my laptop I'd post the superior airport design for River City I made in like 10 minutes in MS paint that looks 100% better AND is still compliant within gameplay and balancing issues.

This is supposed to be a mech sim, please design the maps as such, I understand there are gameplay and balance constraints, but for gods sake the ******* maps apparently cost PGI 500k and they're all ******** giant earth bowls with crappy artificial boundaries. It's sad when the MW4 city maps look more like real cities than anything in MWO does.

Don't even get me started on how broken the mech scale is.

For example, look, this is how the pilot fits inside the Commando.

Posted Image

He doesn't even fit, his legs extend outside of the mech, he wouldn't even fit through the hatch on the back of the commandos head that's supposed to lead into the cockpit in the first place.

I can understand why it would be difficult to fix mech scale, I get that, but for gods sake, fix map scale, I know it would be hard to go back and fix the old maps, so make sure you make GOOD new ones.

I swear to god if that new city map really ends up being 3 blocks wide across like I think it's going to be...

Okay, I'm one of those "Gold Shills" who loves this game and probably a lot of that is tied up in nostalgia, but scale is the big thing that bothers me. Especially in River City, the architect/artist part of me cringes because the buildings make no sense. In most of the maps, the scale just doesn't feel right.

From the sand-ripples on Tourmaline, to the size of the adobe shack-blocks on Forest Colony, this game falls a little short in the level design and scale department.

I love this game, but I cringe a little when i play it.

If it was the exact same game, but didn't have the Mechwarrior/Battletech license, it would already be dead.

Reviews are a goofy thing. I have other games with better graphics, better blah blah. THIS game is the most fun.

Agree with the people pointing out the questionable graphics, the missed opportunities for scale and epicness in maps, and other things. Lots of things. Still. It's the most fun I have playing computer games.

I stopped taking reviews seriously after I looked up "Gone Home" on metacritic. Never played it, but after reading the actual user reviews, realized I might as well read a $20 book instead.

I'm from CB, I think the graphics are great, the game is fun, and I'm not stopping. But I guess my review doesn't count because I don't have a web domain behind me.

Way I see it, judge it yourself, or get a good idea from many perspectives, not just one.

Why are you bolding everything negative the reviewer has to say, while leaving everything positive unbolded?

You don't make a game better by changing the things that work.

Why this game is in no condition to release.

1. A beta test...with test servers. Let that sink in for a moment.

2. A shiny probe droid above your head does not teach you how to set fire groups or manage your heat.

NGNG's training videos are not a replacement for a dedicated in game training, where you can learn by doing in a controlled environment.

Even Hawken managed this one, but if you still can't figure out how to do this go play Mechwarrior 2.

3..Any game where the players cannot hit other players depending on mech chassis is not ready for release.

The resulting 3-4 assault mechs using 4 streak 2's to kill spiders is disgusting.

[Redacted] it's more like watching two men in a boxing match with broken arms spitting at each other because that's all they can do.

4. Tonnage Based Matchmaking, speaks for itself. Streak assault mechs are stupid, 6-7 of them in a match is worse.

Does anybody know if they ever told something about a normal pass coming? Meaning bump mapping. It could help and its not present in the maps at the moment, only on the mechs, so I wonder if they ever lost a word about it.

This might come as a shock, but you will have to look very hard into the game files to actually find anything that isn't setup with normal maps in their MTLs.

In fact, without resorting to river city assets, I challenge you to find something that isn't using a normal map in the bump slot or detail slot.

6 out of 10 is above average.

If you got a 60% grade on a term paper, that'd be a failing grade in many schools.

I'm not sure MWO deserves a D-, but they're quite a ways from meriting a passing C.

He also said that over time we can expect more particle effects. Once PGI shifts us to the newest cryengine update I expect we will get a lot more eyecandy based on the latest cryengine previews.

Actually a 60% from a private school is worth an 80% at most universities. So it's not all that bad :)

Besides, one review doesn't make them all.

Maybe so but it sure ain't looking like that. I saw some puddle of mud and water having bumpmaps in forest colony but everything else still looks like {Scrap}.
Plus I don't look into gamedata files.

Just look at the commando picture up there some posts above yours? Does that look to you like its using a good normal map? It looks like its taken out of an early PS3 console game. Level textures are absolute rubbish.

The bake on the commando is fine. If you have a keen eye you might spot a hard edge where a seam wasn't split on the UV before the bake or something, but the bake is ok.

Oh yeah. New shiny particle effects arriving Soon.

Just don't wait something sophisticated or hard to implement like tesselation.

Tesselation actually already works if you set it up correctly ;)

What links?

Why you afraid to just give us a link? You are telling the truth, right?
