I'm not sure if anyone has come up with this before so thought it would be a good idea to bring it up. We currently get a red inlay appear when our Missiles get a Target Lock; why not take it further and get a lock-on tone like this one: http://www.google.co...Hk5DyVl8JZQ0UxA . It would make things more realistic.
Alternatively we could have the system that was used in the old 1980's Arcade favourite 'G-Lock' which went one step further by shouting "Fire", "Fire", "Fire" at you in a really nice American accent.

OK I'll take the lack of response as a "We don't want all that Top Gun Stuff in MWO"

I'm not opposed to some kind of optional audio feedback integrated to go alongside the visual feedback of a missile lock. As long as it it's not a whiny IR boresight like the one you've posted and more of a lower subtle note. This way we don't want to gouge our eyes out every time we get a lock.

i would be okay with this but it might get old for a LRMer fast with the constant tone.

Voted "yes". But it has to be sometihng really humble imho, some sound which is very, very short, and has no chance to become an annnoyance when heard too often. But overall, i like the idea very much.

yes; but would also be nice to have the option to switch that audio on and off.

The sound you posted is the feed from a cryogenic seeker head converted into sound. Said seeker heads lock on and change tone as soon as a heat source is in it's line of sight. This doesn't make sense for Mechwarrior online because in Mechwarrior missiles take time to lock on. Additionally the missiles themselves don't have seeker heads and rely on the Mech for guidance.

Actually, in BT fluff both LRMs and SRMs have seeker warheads. SRMs should perform the way they do now only if you fire without a lock (and SSRMs rightly would refuse to fire).
The Draconis Combine later developed MRMs, which were true dumb-fire salvo weapons. They were given a to-hit penalty in the boardgame to represent this. The Periphery nations also developed Rocket Launchers, which are one shot dumb fire salvo weapons.
I'd like to see SRMs given some kind of seeking ability in MWO - especially considering the increasing likelihood of Kurita MRM-equipped Mechs becoming available in future. They should not be able to track as well as SSRMs currently do though.
On topic(!): I would like to have the option of a lock tone either combined with OR instead of the existing HUD reticle.

I would stop playing if that was the sound. Do you actually enjoy hearing that? It makes me want to smash the screen to make it stop.
The streak sound that signifies "trying to fire, but no missile lock" is bad enough, why on earth would you want more high pitched buzzing or whining noises in the game?
