All I can see, usually, is a bunch of flashing lights and then a nice view of my own mech getting blown up.
It's possible that I don't have a good enough video card to actually play this game. What kind of FPS are other people usually getting?

I've got 40-50 usually - 30 is generally considered the cut-off for when you start to get issues. F9 pulls up your FPS counter. I had similar issues on my old laptop, so it's definitely not out of the question. However, the game also has a really intense learning curve, so that might be what's going on, too.

I run the following:
AMD Phenom II X4 810 2.6 GHz
PNY GEFORCE 650Ti 1GB OC @ 1068 MHz
6 GB RAM
I get about 40-50 FPS at Medium settings. I get dips into the 20s if the action get s really harry or if I’m running Thermal vision, but other than that, fairly stable. Check your drivers maybe?

I seem to be in single digit FPS pretty much all the time, even at lowest settings. My processor is pretty good (i5 3.3GHz) but my video card is an older model (Radeon HD 6450). I think that's probably the weakpoint.

Well, even a Core 2 Duo E4300@2.33GHz and HD5450 can run this game at 27FPS constantly on lowest settings. Try the usual stuff like updating your drivers first.

Hi Gruyter,

I run a very similar system on a latop. The specs are actually worse, but I get 25-35fps.

My system
i5 2.4ghz
AMD 6450m (so same card/mobile version)
8gb RAM

Try the following:

Make sure driver is updated to at least AMD Catalyst 13.3 or above(13.3 boosted CryEngine 3 support). 13.4 WHQL is the latest stable. I run 13.5b3 but 13.8beta is now available.

Go into Catalyst Control centre on your computer and under gaming make sure all sliders are maxed for performance over quality.

Run graphics on lowest settings in game. Go into advance and drag all the sliders to low.
Make sure you turn off glow.

Run the resolution at 1270 x 720 or lower.

Hopefully this will improve your fps.

Also, close down everything else. I run SETI, but if I forget to turn that off, my performance takes a major hit.

"under 20 fps is unplayable."
not really. I play pretty well @ 15 fps. I used to have to suffer below 10 fps, which is my personal cutoff in terms of playability. If you are used to 60 fps, being below 30 fps will probably really hurt you until you get used to it.
btw, the hotfix that fixed the unnecessary damage textures brought my fps up to 25 before this patch brought it back down to 15-18 fps.

Make sure the settings in the CCC are set to "let the application decide" <-- this helped me, hope it helps you too.

shellashock, I think the playable fps depends largely on what you're piloting. I know that when I am piloting a light, if I get a consistent 20fps or lower, not only am I complaining to PGI, but then I drop in an lrm boat until they get their issue solved. I have a friend who typically runs at between 15 and 20 fps, and he generally runs either a brawler, sniper or lrm boat. Never a light or medium.

Those are fine for a system playing a Crytek3 engi\ne based game. You won't get better results until you get over 3.2 GHz. OC'ing your video card is almost useless until they switch to Dx11 because the game is currently optimized, with Dx9, for your CPU.

Maybe it depends on which frames you are getting? ;)
I will admit I have absolutely no knowledge to back that up with though.

AMD Phenom II x6 1090T 3.2 Ghz
8 Gig Memory
SSD Drive (game installed on for texture reading)
Radeon HD 5700
Windows 7 64 bit to use the memory.

Medium Settings (33 fps) an average of 50 ping.

I need to upgrade the video card. It's getting alittle dated.

after you have updated you drivers (video, mobo, sound)
make sure the game is not running
navigate to the games instillation folder (if you dont know how to get there search you pc for mechwarrior online)

open the USER folder
then DELETE the Shaders folder (only this one unless you want to remap your keys)

this will make the game rebuild its graphics delivery system based on your updated drivers

I had a similar situation when I started, with 12fps on most maps (9fps or less with Night vision). When Canyon Network debuted, I got 17-18 fps there, and thought it was really nice.
Teammates spectating from my mech got a very different view than I did, and said most of my shots weren't hitting, when I thought they were. My damage score at the end of the game was more in line with what they were seeing.

When I installed a supported video card, and had 60fps, it was not only easier to shoot ballistics and SRMs, it was actually easier to hold a missile lock.

Since the 12v12 patch came out, my frame rate is down to 48, but it hasn't affected my scores.

For me, far enough above 30 that I never notice any lag.. Not until a mech with 4 AC2s/5s starts shooting at my face anyways. Those seem to have started lagging me lately.. Not too sure why, but it is annoying.
