I just have to laugh at "DPS does'nt mean anything".
How is having to face your opponent face on a disadvantage when you can shred his mech in 5 seconds straight through his centre torso? If the enemy torso twists so what? Whatever part he twists to is going to get shredded in a few seconds so he's screwed anyway and if he dares to turn back to try and fire, bang, his ct is gone.
Basically in a one on one situation with ac's vs lets say lasers one player just has to sit there holding his finger on the fire button hitting the enemy mech and they'll die fast. The other mech has to aim for a weak spot, concentrate fire on it, twist away to even have a chance of surviving, twist back, aim for the weakspot again through all the screen shake from the dakka and deal with the heat generated by the lasers aswell in the hope he can knock out the enemy.
It's situational. If you have a sniper versus UAC/5 user, and the sniper plays to his strengths of peek-shoot-hide, the sniper will win out because he has superior burst damage. If you have a striker against a UAC/5 user, again if the striker can play to his strengths of hitting hard with burst damage and fading away again, the striker will win eventually.
If the UAC/5 user can play to his strengths, and gain a vantage point from which he can lay sustained fire on the target, he wins. That's fair.
For the record, I primarily drive the Hunchback-4SP, so this isn't even about me defending what I drive.
