Hello all, I haven't been able to play MWO, or pretty much any other high graphics video game on my PC since March this year.

For example, I could be playing Skyrim, walking down a road minding my own business and then when a dragon shows up I lose video feed right in the middle of the fight.

I actually have been having this problem since November last year(the month when I first custom build my gaming PC from scratch).

At first I thought the problem was that my video card was too heavy or powerful, since It takes up 3 PCI slots. I strapped it to my motherboard using plastic zipties but the problem persisted.

I even took it to both a Best Buy and then a Tiger Direct and they couldn't figure out the problem either.

I started to wonder if the card was simply overheating. I developed this theory due to the fact that whenever I lose video feed, if I unplug the PC from the wall and wait 20 minutes, then boot the PC back up I get my video feed back.

So I then experimented with taking a plain old house fan, removed the side panel of my case and I had the fan "cool off" the GPU at point blank on full blast and...I can now play Skyrim without the GPU shutting down. However if I play Assassin's Creed III or Star Trek Online it shuts down. Same issue with MWO.

Yes the fans are working and no I don't have a dust problem.

So here's my question: Could my GPU be a lemon? Could I not have a powerful enough power supply? Currently I'm using an 80+ Platinum Roswell 750 watt PSU. I'm just trying to find a way to improvise so I can get back to playing MWO. I am having one of those years where every time I have money saved up an emergency forces me to use up most of my savings. So I don't think I can replace my GPU and get back to playing MWO until around January next year. That's life I guess. Any help on this issue would be very much appreciated.

Below is the link to the GPU that I have:

...Now I do have an additional question: If I do have to ultimately replace my GPU, what has proven to be the best 3GB GPU for MWO so far? I built my PC specifically to play MWO. It sucks that I haven't been able to play MWO since March, lol.

That's some really good info Goosfraba - looks like that's the issue you're running into Dr Death. If it's under warranty, looks like it's a known issue... If you're really crazy (and it's out of warranty, AND you know what you're doing  ) you could try verifying the contact pressure issue and using a copper shim or something, maybe some nylon washers on the heatsink bolts to get a better fit. Without seeing the card, it's hard to know what'll work the best.

In any case, don't mess around if you aren't comfortable with hardware :) Hopefully your card is still under warranty, and it sounds like ASUS is aware of the issues with that card - whether or not they'll admit it is another thing entirely I suppose. Best of luck to you!

As for the GPU question, 7970s are a pretty good value right now, although I hear good things about the GTX 700 series...I like my 7970 and would recommend it to anyone especially at the current prices, but some game engines really like nvidia's approach to GPUs. Anyone else using one to good effect in CryEngine? Tough to know without DX11...
