Now, just hear me out. 6 mechbays allow for eliting 4 chasis while not having to sell a chassis just to rebuy it later, which will mean less trial chassis running round. As it is actually, with 1 or 2 slots to elite your 3rd or 4th mech, that entails alot of buying and reselling of chassis. This is also based on the idea that you require a chassis of each weight to run a dropship game. If not, you can expect me to run around with 4 rvn-3l in a dropship game, because, well, lights are cheap, and most will be happy for the extra tonnage I'm leaving them.

Ahem, back to the problem at hand. If you have 2 slots, you want to for example master the rvn-3l, you have to buy a 2x and a 4x, basic both resell the 2x, buy a 3l, basic that, then elite the 4x, sell the 4x, rebuy a 2x, elite that then finally elite and master the 3l. All in all, you have to buy 4 mechs in order to master a single mech!

With a single slot it's even worse. You buy a 2x, basic it, sell it. You buy a 4x, basic it, sell it. You buy a 3l, basic it, sell it. You rebuy a 2x, elite it, resell it. You rebuy a 4x, elite it, resell it. Then you rebuy the 3l, and elite and master it. This requires buying 6 mechs just to master one mech.

You might go ahead and claim that this doesnt cost anything but time, but look at that grind, does that seem in any way to improve gameplay? An those saying that you can earn the xp in one go and basic elite, master them in order, nope, you need the mechs in your mechbay in order to spend the xp earned on the chassis, so no mastering a mech over a few months by taking out the trails, not without buying the chassis anyway.

Or they could lower the cost of mechbays and MC's and actually get some cash flowing.

In the NGNG podcast friend.

OR how about.... Just maybe... You can get a handful of MC by certain achievements in game? Nearly every other FTP MMO I have played in has some mechanic to get a few (very few) of the in house currency by hard work.. Why not here. Then you can have you 5-6 Mech bays and still feel proud to be FTP

If I am CONSTRAINED to buy Mech bays I am LESS Likely to. If I know I could always grind for a couple more I personally don't mind sinking a few $$ getting them. Perverse logic maybe but that's how I feel. Box me in a corner and I'll fight; leave me an option (albeit unpalatable) and I relax just a bit.

See the Art of War, it works in business too PGI.

Hey you can always use the trial mechs as a new player ... WTF is wrong with you nubes

1 st drop in trial raven with 100 armour , 2nd drop in quickdraw that overheats every 2nd shot , 3 rd drop in a missile cat with enough ammo for 1/4th of a match .

sounds like fun right ?

or you could buy a couple of mechbays, problem solved.

If you intend to play more than 1 type of mech, your going to need a LOT more mechbays. dropship mode has nothing to do with that really.

You expect the group that sells an Orion mech for $22 (or most any other MC purchased mech for that matter) and won't even give you a mech bay with it to give us 2 more free mech bays?

I admire your optimism!

I believe that 1€ per hangar spot is a very fair price. Its among all things you can buy in the game for $$$ the best value for money.

Oh, the price is fair, I'm not dissing their pricing scheme. I'll might even get some MC the day a Raven hero hits. But, a F2P is by definition "free to play", as it is, the games feels more like a P2P, a "pay to play". To be on an equal footing with those that pay in a F2P is supposed to be possible, yet in Mechwarrior: Online, I'm not so sure that is true.

Did the dropship mode get released when I wasn't looking?

If it isn't in the game yet, lets not go trying to make changes for it ahead of time. We don't even know how it works yet, let alone anything else about the combat mode.

As a final note, 4 slots is enough for free accounts I feel. And it really isn't that expensive to buy more slots, at less than $10 being able to buy you several additional mechbays. The game needs support as it does cost money to operate and run. Not to mention, 4 mechbays permit you to still run in what we presume will be the four slots permitted in Dropship mode, it lets you master one chassis by owning all the needed variants, and you can still have a single mech from a previously mastered chassis as well. Or you can play bay shuffle and rotate selling mech variants for the last two slots to master up to four different mech chassis over time. But then again, if you are committing enough time into the game to master up to 4 mechs, don't you think the game deserves some money tossed it's way? Give up that coffee for just a week, and you can buy more mechbays. (If you don't earn money by work, then save up your allowance for probably a week or two. I know not everyone is rich, but if you have a computer and can afford internet, asking for $6.95 for you to buy a few more mechbays isn't exactly what I would call expensive.)

As far as Free to Play goes, it is perfectly and completely viable to play this game with just the 4 free mechbays and get complete enjoyment from the game. Additional slots help you with more diverse mech selection. It does not provide any other edge than that.

Now, if they had 2 or less mechbays, with elites and masters needing 3 variants to be unlocked, then I could and would agree with it being a Pay to Win situation, as you can't viably compete against other players who pay as they can get more powerful than you ever could. But, seen as they started you off with four bays, 1 extra over the minimum 3 needed for basics and masters, and enough to permit you to participate in the future concept of Dropship assault mode, I'd have to say paying money for mechbays doesn't provide an edge in game. It just quickens your progression in the game by a little bit and provides you with more options on mechs to play.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The most important sentences in this thread, right there, although I understand what the OP is saying.
If we need choose between a full 4 bay hangar, vs selling off mechs to get the types needed (potentially) for this fabled dropship mode, lots of people probably just won't play dropship mode..... and the last thing this this Steaming Pile (®) needs (other than PGI to hold their current course) is more player division or loss.
