In response to this suggestion, which I don't agree with, I would like to rather suggest that weapons systems should be locked for the first 15-30 seconds of a match to prevent accidental friendly fire during deployment.

It's simple, and I don't see how you could have to fire on the enemy within 30 seconds of a match anyway.

Two words... Forest Colony where I can start shooting within 10 seconds or so.

I don't want to prevent Friendly Fire in my idea. I want the st00pidz to pay for being st00pidz, while punishing Macros.

Also... not canon! :(

kinda hard to say, might work though. However, we talk about punishing the stupid ones that shoot at the beginning. It's always by mistake, even I have done it. I remember back in closed beta there was a bug with the game vs. my OS that caused it fire on its own at the start of a match.....glad that no longer happens. Anyhow, i'm not completely sure I agree with the suggestion here, but so far it's the best suggestion I've heard yet, so if we don't come up with any better ideas then I'd say Tweaks idea is the best to go with at this point.

...oh, and one map I can think of that you can shoot the others in the first 30 seconds of the match is River City, ... though it's not too practical.

Then just adjust the "trigger safety" timer based on the size of the map, it's a non-issue really if they wanted to implement it. That's just a bogus excuse not to do it.

They won't need to punish anyone if nobody can shoot you in the back to begin with, and this is a much better (and more peaceful) approach in my opinion. Besides, have you never ever jumped because something scared you and made you click your mouse because your hand crisped? It happened to me a few times, and it was an accident. I don't think I should be "punished" for this. By locking the trigger for the first few seconds in the match, you make it impossible to do so when there are the most chances that a friendly 'Mech will be stopped in front of you.

As for canon, I don't see what you mean. I'm sure that there are weapon safety switches on 'Mechs and I believe I recall reading about them in some of the novels too. Pretty much every military weapon or vehicle has them, and it's protocol to leave them on around friendly units until you actually have to engage the enemy or you're just about to. If anything, I think it's more believable and plausible than a "mirror damage" system.

I was teasing you Tweaks :(

Still I like my post better because it causes st00pidz to accidentally themselves. Yours provides no tears ;)

I would however still accept your plan.

All good mate! One thing that would be more realistic if you wanted to actually punish players for shooting a friendly (accidentally or not) is to implement some sort of honour point system. Doing actions such as bravery defending a friendly (saviour kill) or winning a 3v1 fight would grant you honour points, but shooting a friendly would count as a dishonourable action and get you to lose some instead.

But let's not get into that debate (which has been beaten to death in closed beta if I recall).

And after those 30 seconds are up, people will still shoot each other in the back.

It's called shooting them back.

Look... I just started piloting lights... all I'm looking for is a chance to get the hell away from my lazy/st00pid/accident prone team mates with all my leg armor intact :(

And I can appreciate that, but I've rarely been shot in the legs or in the back by a friendly, and only once was it an {person who is not too bright} that did it on purpose. "It's just your legs, you'll survive" he said... Of course I got legged very quickly that match because of it.

Make it 10 seconds and I'm on board. Better yet just make it so that a mech that fires on a teammate in the first 10 or 15 seconds shuts down as a penalty for his idiocy. That's about as 'canon' as the original suggestion. You'd be able to tell very clearly who did the damage this way and they'd be unable to continue dealing damage until they came back online.

Whenever my beautiful Betty tells me "weapons online, all systems nominal", I instantly assume that my weapons are ready to fire. Not 10 seconds later and certainly not 30 seconds later. On the river city map you can actually start hitting enemies the moment you make your first step. I vote no.

Please. You can fire immediately on River City. Broken maps are broken.
