Once the devs install whatever arbitrary 'nerfs' are necessary to 'resolve' the Gauss/PPC metagame (because it's still everywhere), I have a lingering suspicion what the next hyper-prevalent meta will be:

UAC-5 + Laser/Pulse Laser

The theory is, spam UAC-5 until it jams. Then switch to energy weapons and alpha the **** out of your target, because your heat is still really low. The UAC's high DPS, low heat, and long range is great for shredding enemy armor or forcing a target to retreat into cover, and large pulse lasers do reasonably well at stripping armor and alpha-ing at short to medium range.

Once your UAC is unjammed, spam it again until it jams. You won't be overheated by then, unless you take some absolutely crazy build. Blast away with the lasers again.

If you turn a corner and SUDDENLY ATLAS, go ahead and nuke with both weapon groups. Even if you die, you will still do lots of damage on your way out, and an Atlas with the CT almost clawed out of it is a very high-priority target.

This game is unpredictable like a clock.

It's currently PPCs ACs with a side order of lasers. Since the only nerf coming for any of those weapons is on UAC5s, which drop the recycle time to 1.5 secs with option to double burst with chance to jam... that's how it'll probably stay

Meh, you may as well just boat AC-2's and have reliable DPS.

AC2's are way hotter than UAC5's, so even if it jams you get more dps from ultras.

To answer the OP... Oh, so you mean MechWarrior 4 multiplayer all over again. Why am I not surprised?

whats amazing is the signifiant percentage of "PILOTS" who constantly run the flavor of the week builds.
While its a net positive as it addresses gameplay balance issues, its only by accident that you are a benefit to the community.

So the next FOM is pairing a long-range (UAC5) weapon with a medium range (LAS) or Med-Short range (PLAS)? A load-out that isn't dominant at ALL ranges? A somewhat balanced multi-range loadout? I fail to see the problem. You can't snipe as effectively as a pure sniper build, and a weapon that jams is not ideal in a brawl. You get a bit of both worlds.

so what? we are not allowed to have a meta at all? Even when the meta is "different weapons and loudouts which are all quite good balanced, pick what you like?"

what is this thread about?

Fact is, FOTM is getting a lower and lower percentage of everyones mechs with each patch since about 3 patches that it basically doesn't matter that one loadout is like 3 % better than any other, because less and less players are willing to just use this one loadout, because this 3% are negligible.

The more weapons you pack into a "meta build" and the more you can switch out those weapons with other weapons, the less you have a meta at all.

"boohoohoo QQ i don't know what to whine against, there is no siginificant meta foreseeable help!"

I ran an AC20 hunchy for a few matches the other day after a match where someone made the comment that hunchies sucked.

It had been a while since I had run it this way, but I had a bunch of fun, won those few games I played, and did a lot of damage. I played it like an Atlas sidekick pretty much, where I stuck around the heavier mechs and punched holes in many mechs bigger than I. It was way more fun than running a bunch of UAC's.

TLDR; meta is as meta does
