Now can anyone recommend a simple. . Effective build a novice pilot could get away with using and still do relatively well in?
Atm I'm looking at dual PPC and dual uac5 ... ok for a beginner or should I be looking at something else?
Thanks for any help. .. :-)

Here's one using the stock engine, still under 13 million cbills, and it is a solid mech at most ranges:

Check out Mechspecs.com and find a 5 star build that looks good to you.

Anyway, before the Ilya sale, I planned on getting a 3D. Instead, my 3rd 'Phrat is an Ilya, but I'm still saving up for the 3D. Jumpjets are a game changer, and the 3D and Ilya are different enough you can have fun with both in different ways.

Keep in mind that was posted back in September, long before we had loads of Shadow Hawks, Wolverines and Griffins running around that make good use of XL280s. Now, yeah, sure, g'head. The more XL280s the better.

It was still lies back then. Many Catapults and Jager builds use them, other Cataphrats could, and they even fit in some Awesome or Highlander builds. Heck, even some Jenner builds (or Raven 3L builds) used it.
The XL280 is just short of the XL300 as far as overall useful XL engines, and was back then too. The fact that it's basicly a free upgrade from the XL275, over the 250 rating, and past the 275 rating for HS storage made it exceptionally useful.

Its versitile hardpoints, armour jumpjets and xl engine capabilities are without comparison.
When you buy one I would strongly advise maxing the armour and getting double heatsinks and endo steel. It is my only mech that I have got over 1000 damage in and the mech that holds my personal record for most kills.
here is my loadout if you need ideas: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...851ebeb6b17a99d
