Yes? Every single weapon in MWO has gotten a roughly 3x rate of fire boost - you can't be oblivious to that fact, Joe :)

Did you have a point or are you just arguing because you love arguing with me? :D

Both. Only I see it as debating not arguing ;)

Damage wise, is a MG on par with a small laser and SRM2? If yes, the weapon is fine leave it alone. If not, get it there and leave it alone! :D

I'd say the MG is in an okay spot where it is right now - I'd love for it to get a slight, slight buff so that it's better when mounted in pairs, but I'm also aware that this would probably make it OP for real when mounted by sixes, so I'm not going to push the point.

As to whether it's equal to the SL, I'd say yes, it is. Both do 1 DPS against armour, the MG does more against internals but does need ammo and has spread whereas the SL doesn't need ammo and is pin-point. I'm prepared to split the difference and call it even.

The SRM-2, now. They probably should have another look at that; I can't fathom why it's still at 2.0 damage when the auto-aim SSRM-2 got buffed to 2.5 damage. The cool down reduction was good, but I don't think it matters all that much when it does a full point of damage less than an auto-aim weapon - nobody's going to replace their SSRMs with SRM-2s any time soon, and that's a shame. Manual aiming should be rewarded, not penalized.

I don't agree with it having more DPS than the small laser, which is suppose to do damage for a tradeoff of heat. Machine guns were put on 'Mech back in the old TRO days not for infantry but because most 'Mechs had {Scrap} for heat sinks and they let you shoot something while cooling off.

Its a weapon that doesn't make heat and only weighs .5 tons. It doesn't need an added bonus if it already does the same damage as another .5 ton weapon that statistically is suppose to do more damage than it.

It doesn't do more damage than a Small Laser versus armour.

Why PGI decided to make it into a "crit weapon", well, only they know. I'd have been content with it as a "ballistic small laser" without any extra crit chance (but then the random spread would have needed to be removed as well).

The MG is needed because we have lights that have ballistic slots, and the next lightest weapon is too heavy for lights; why they mounted them on TT 'mechs is neither here nor there when discussing the weapon in MWO - well, it's perhaps interesting as a side-note, but the weapon needs to fill a role in the current game or there's simply no point having it.

As it stands, the current MG does fill that role; mounting 2-4 of them on a light 'mech does much the same thing as mounting 2-4 Small Lasers would.

The MG and small laser both do 1DPS against armor. Sorry light pilots if your 4MG build doesn't let you take on Atlases directly from the front. Maybe you should find something else to kill.

The MG is a good support weapon and crit/tonnage filler. Most people who call it "useless" do not understand its role and/or do not know that you aim it like a laser, without leading the target.

I understand its role.

Its utter garbage.
