hey all

spent my 250 mc to get me a day of premium thinking i had the time off to do so. Suddenly a call from work and the all time favorite "WE NEED YOU" has me log out and unable to return for over 36 hours. Once i had returned , the timer was gone and it asked for more mc to gain more premium time.

Id like to see this change to "logged in" countdown as this situation was beyond my control and paid real money for time i was unable to play in.

fair being fair yeah ?

( as much as id like to purchase big , theres just no telling when ima be dragged away for a week of work which kinda diminishes the value of purchasing a week or a month , id like to keep it small and controllable )

anyone else like this idea ? id feel better spending more cash if i know it was accountable to availability

thanx

i agree that'd be really nice.

but i guess the balance is between making money. and making your players feel like they are being fairly treated.

It has been this way since the PT introduction, I don't know if other games actually count the play time rather than the ticking it away even when you're not playing..

Other games do it too.. nothing special in the f2p industry.

One option could be as the op suggests; premium time only goes down when you are logged on. Another could be to add an MC stipend, free mech bay, a free color or two per month etc.

MWO needs to add value to premium time. It's not worth it currently for people who only log on for a few hours a week.

Premium time is pretty much a subscription and you need to treat it as such. You buy a day, you get a day. Buy a month, get a month.

Before you respond consider this. If it didn't run out when you were offline, how long would 24 hours of premium time last? Probably a week for most players. 30 days, 720 hours, would last probably 6 months. At the cheap prices premium time costs, PGI wouldn't be making much money.

Now they could make it not count down offline but if they did that, they would have to raise the prices according. 24 hours would probably have to be like 1500 gold. 72 hours 3000 gold. So on and so forth.

This would be both good and bad. The good part is that the less you played the more value you got for your money since if you only played a few hours ever week, 24 hours would last you a really long time. The bad part is those players who play alot would get totally screwed since they might play 80+ hours a week.

The best you can do is plea your case with support in hopes that they will give you another 24 hours of premium time. However, no MMO that I know of ever runs a premium service base on login time or allows players to deactivate their service to preserve the time they have. It is always based on real time, and if you don't use it, that's too bad for you.

Contact support they are pretty cool guys.

I am sure they can see your login history and if your story is indeed true and you didnt play the game during your premium time they may credit you back your MC or another day of premium.

Doesn't hurt to ask =)

nice , yeah , i like what your saying. It makes perfect business to keep your customers paying to play.

Subscription is usually access to an otherwise un accessible product , in this case however , its only bonus xp play time.
I can still play my mechs in games and have the same fun like i was paying for it however now due to my unavailability, ive decided to hold out paying for 1 day until my next available day off . where as with this system , id prolly use it by tomorrow arvo and continue paying out knowing my random work situation dont effect available ingame bonus time.

I spose i can see both sides here , and lets face it , anyone doing 80+ hours a week in-game with bonus is still getting what he pays for ( and rollin in C-Bills.) i figured in my situation it would be more value to PGI if i was to keep paying out under a follow on system instead of holding out and playing free until "possible" free time value for spending.

a compromise would be to allow it only to "1 day" subscribers , as these would mainly keep us "Worker folk" feeling like we have a place in life and get somewhat a chance to roll up some C-bills on given chance. In this case i would clearly pay out more for the bonus time knowing i can get use from it however now we wait while i grind my fun out for free.Even add a "use by" clause , that could help.

i got no probs spending , but im not , im saving for "available time" to play. Which in itself is restricting what i could be spending on it.

lol , and theres no case , im not looking for "returns". Support the games you enjoy :)

While I like the idea of only using premium time when logged in, they would have to remove the "day" tag and just give you 6 hours or so. The assumption is that you purchase a day but can only use part of it (you probably aren't going to play for 24 hours straight).

This is normal. WoW charges $15/month with the assumption that you'll only play around 20 hours a week at the most.Comcast charges $50 per month with the assumption that you'll only use around 20 - 30 gigs of data per month. The more you use the service, the more bandwidth and server processing time you consume, which decreases their profit margin. There is a point at which, even paying for a subscription, you could theoretically take them into the red and cost them money by playing. They bank on over selling you in order to cover the costs of running a 24/7 network.

Conversely, if you never pay PGI, you're always keeping them in the red and someone else has to pay money for you, themselves, and for PGI's profit. Thus, they need an exhaustible resource that generates frequent cash infusions.

Think of it like Cable TV. Sure, TV is technically "free", but you pay a premium for better content without ever being able to use everything you're paying for - you can't watch every channel 24/7.

The extra that you get paid for being on call should more than cover any lost premium time. If you're not getting paid more for being on call then it's time to find another job. I do sympathise with you, but I've wasted premium myself and don't blame PGI for it.

1 ) All Premium Time in every F2P game works exactly as it works here in MWO. This is an industry standard.

2 ) At worst the 1 day cost you $1.40... seriously? You are complaining about $1.40? You can't even buy a Burger and a Soda at McDs for $1.40.

3 ) You are only about the 100000000000000000000000000000000000000 person to start a thread on this topic. Perhaps you could have just posted in one of those other threads.

Bumping threads is against the revised ToS. Given that, he did the right thing.

That being said, I agree with the rest. ~$1.50 is not a lot of cash, and every F2P game ever runs on the same system. While it would be awesome to have the timer only run down when you were online, it'd have to be a LOT more expensive if they did that.

What they should do is to have options for PT in time allotments like they have now AND a set number of matches as well. Something like

250 MC =1 day OR 15 games

but then that would require extra coding and we all know how good PGI is at that...

Personally I treat premium time as I would a monthly subscription. $15 a month, even if I only get 2-3 hours a week it seems like a small investment to make the most of my limited time.....especially if you can run it with a hero mech as well. Now keep in mind this is from someone that is used to actually paying a subscription to play a game (Eve) and there have been months I did not log-in at all.....I finally quit that game and diverted funds to this one.

If you can not stand the thought of premium ticking away, I recommend a hero mech or two, the bonus is always there!

Been an old MMORP player that's how most of ppl see the premum time, like the monthly fee from those.

Still there is always people who wants all for their bucks.
