Hey guys, I have noticed just about all the mechs have no real focus towards something, roughly 70% of mechs are lasers, 20% missiles, and 10% ballistics, and of the 70% laser mechs there are about 2/3 of those that have so much spread out weapon systems that they dont really focus in anything and dont generally work well in any of their tasks.

I am probably going to recieve alot of flame for this, but meh.

What would make ths game better is if most Mechs had some re-work, to put them towards some sort of focus and do really exceptionally well in one area while being vulnerable to other things.

So we currently have: Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault.

First of all we need a Sub Category for each Mech such as the following: Energy, Ballistic, Missiles, Hybrid which will say as to what a Mechs Primary focus is toward.

Secondly, Mechs need to have like a Chasis bonus which will also help with specialisation.
So for example:
Hunchback HBK-4P
Class: Medium
Sub-Class: Energy
Chasis bonus: 10% reduced Heat generated from Energy Weapons
E: 9 B: 0 M: 0 AMS: 1

and

Hunchback HBK-4G
Class: Medium
Sub-Class: Hybrid
Chasis bonus: 5% increased Damage to Energy Weapons and Ballistic Weapons
E: 3 B: 3 M: 0 AMS: 1

The reason why the first one has a heat related bonus as opposed to damage would be because it can fit 9 lasers, so this specialization points towards firing all lasers at once with out worrying about overheat. The second one has damage bonus to both weapon systems because it has less weapons, the damage bonus is designed to ramp up the amount of (effective weapons).

Thirdly, the amount of Laser only focused Mechs need to be reduced and the amount of Missile and Ballistic Mechs need to be increased. so there should be a even spread of Mech class: 25% Energy, 25% Ballistic, 25% Missile, 25% Hybrid

There you have it guys that how i feel the issues with this game should be dealt with, to make the game alot more emersive.

i agree this needs change aswell
most mech's are just diffrent in size and class though the weapon layouts seem to be copy/pasted! on the majority of the mech's
nothing off synergy bonuses on the hull type of a class.

and i like that idea i say go make our mech's more special and focus on a role specific bonus

I am sure I will receive some flame for this but...
Learn to build a mech, tailoring every mech to one specific purpose will largely negate the design process involved and make the mechlab largely obsolete.
While this idea is definately not a bad one, I just honestly thinks it belongs in "lesser" franchises, or products tailored for people with less ingenuity.

I agree on the point that some mechs a very similar in their layout, this is undeniable.
However "forcing" people to adopt a certain playstyle based on what chassis they happen to have bought is a handicap more than a boon.
Veterans will exploit it and noobs wont know the difference between good and bad synergies.
With the current system, you can purchase a mech and then customize it till you find a build that suits your playstyle, it offers more opportunites for learning than a "set way of doing things" If you are desperate to be effective in your mech, put in more hours!!!
