How Are You Building Your Orion?

You can make a Marauder using the Orion ON1-K. 2x ML, 2x PPC, 1x AC5 (30 rounds). Full armor. 61.6 kph (67.7 with Speed Tweak).
It works slightly better than the CTF-1X Marauder builds, since that extra 5 tons is very important. It's a bit tougher and a little more heat efficient.
You could switch to ERPPCs but the heat efficiency takes a dive. The lost critical slots from using an XL are more important than the weight savings.

Currently using an XL engine, I have not played that many rounds (maybe 10 or so) but have yet to die from side torso yet so I guess XL engine is worth it.
I am also having mixed feelings about this mech, all I would say is you have got to avoid the early long range exchanges, because all that happens is you get shot straight in the centre torso and this mech just cant take any punishment.
Use it later on in the match (provided all your team hasnt died) and you absolutely have to torso twist.
I want to like this mech, but im not sure (as previously posted) it can do anything other heavies cant already do better.

Best I got is :
4Medium Lasers 1 Gaus rifle and srm 10, actually works really good.
Get XL and fast engine though, side slots never die before center torso.

I use almost identical builds on both the V and the M.
It's the most successful I feel because of the mid range, where I can use combinations of AC10 and LRM's to pummel people and force them to take cover. That and even when i am extremely hurt I can sit back and lob without exposing myself.
It's about the best I can do.

GL with that, I've already tried something similar. With alot more DHS, and you can only fire like 4 times before you overheat. Guess it would depend on your playstyle, but I can't stand not being able to actually fight. Plus the Orion is short on crit slots, you can't even get endo or fiberous, and I think the most DHS I fit in it was 21.
And if you're running a Xl, say goodnight when the game begins. Because you get annihilated usually. It's not really a good mech in my opinion. With 44 points of armor on the shoulders and 70 on the CT, it still feels like it's made out of paper. I like my Dragon better, and you can't really upgrade the engine. Unles you want to either have a xl, or have like no firepower. Even with a xl, there's not much room to gain speed. Might as well make a atlas instead.

If you are in a STD engine equipped Orion, always ALWAYS bring an AC20.
If you are in a XL engine equipped Orion, always ALWAYS bring at least 2xLarge Lasers.
Do these things and your build will be technically sound on paper. Everything else is up to you.

The lrms at the start of a match to help keep your distance and not get cored. They're also great when mechs start to try to close or maps with a lot of open space. The erll are great for hammering at distance. When a mech starts closing or you're in close quarters I stagger the lls in between lbx shots. Lights tend to stay away once the lbx starts flying.
