I've been having a lot of success running my protector as a midfielder, I just got my w/l up to .9 ( after it being around .6 when I was learning the mech) and currently have a 1.3 k/d and I generally average 1-3 kills and 2-500 dmg a match

the setup I've been using is Incredibly simple and efficient which is probably why I enjoy it so much.

1x Gauss -4 tons of ammo
2x ERLLas
AMS - 2 tons of ammo

XL325
16 DHS
Endo
MAX armor

sure it's only 33 alpha, but the cool down rate on the erllas synch's up with the gauss very well and with a 1.6 heat efficiency i get to fire all systems on cd and not have to worry about heat.

I now also believe that the firepower stat on the mech loadout is a trap, the only assault I don't enjoy meeting on the field is the victor, ( I tend to eat stalkers in particular) sure it's only 33 but it's 33 where I want it and the finishing power on the gauss make's me happy in close encounters.

in the 150 or so matches with my Protector so far I've died probably 2-3 from xl shoulder deaths and even less to my rifle.

the orion to me feel's like a lot more like a toolbox than a unique fighting machine, as was mentioned above with the Vic/atlas/dragon comparison which depends mostly on purpose and playstyle. it's not the fastest nor the most durable but it works for me.

WHy did you buy the V if you're not going to use the ballistic slots. Also, the orion isn't really a good brawler.

Here is how I ended up loading up my VA. I think It works pretty well, with the speed tweak it moves a pretty good pace (68.9kph) and packs a pretty strong punch.

I have loved the Orions from when I played table top games of mech...

Only got the V version at mo and running a LRM15, 2LL, Gauss, 10DHS, STD300 engine and a good amount of armour.

I find this good as early game I rain down with my 1 ton of LRM ammo, once thats gone things are in sight and I start with the LL's and when heat builds up I change to my gauss to let my heat go down then back to LL's.

If you play a good game and dont just charge in I have droped most mech types.

Still trying to figure out can I keep a good balance and use my second Ballistic slot but thats just were I will keep playing with builds I suppose.

I run my ON1-V with 2xLL, AC10, 3xSRM6 and XL 300. It's a good mix of speed and brawlability. Also I find that this is a good mech for XL; because the CT and not RT/LT is the weak point, if find that XL does not significantly increase vulnerability over STD.

Orion VA
4 LRM5 (3 tons ammo)
1 AC20 (4 tons ammo)
2 ML (0 tons ammo)lol
Standard 300
11DHS
nearly max armor. Made this after I read a LRM AC20 mix post and it really is fun, not to mention i love the missle arms

WTF why is my keyboard typing like this all of a sudden???????????

^^ I elited my VA with that same build, very soild.

Orion K

1 LRM 15 + Arty (2 tons ammo)
1 AC/20 (3 tons ammo)
4 mL
Standard 300

Great at all ranges, but really solid in the 200-300 range where you can alpha your heart out. The AC/20 Kill Shot is probably my favorite thing in all of MWO, it just feels... right.

Absolutely! Nothing's quite as satisfying as the resolution of those 4 seconds of cooldown before the AC20 killshot.

Yep seeing the lasers get the CT down to internals while the cooldown is going and just KNOWING in 2 seconds you are going to get that kill.

Here is my best ON1-V build

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2b030cfdbc3a331

The Autcannon's just lay on the fire on targets, keep the ac10 and 2 bound to the same firing group, mediums for sweeping lights or additional firepower and the LRM's can be used in a group to break through AMS or chain fired for targets that don't have AMS.

I run something similar, but with twin AC5 instead of the 10/2 combo, a 360 XL, 2 more sinks, and up-armored. I went with the big XL mostly because before the patch the CT hitbox was pretty big. I just took it for a spin tonight for the first time since Phoenix hit, and it worked ok for me. Not great, but ok.

I also run a ON1-K with 360 XL, 20 double sinks, and 4 LLs. Not an inspired build, but I do ok with it.

Ok heres my latest build for the V model and I am now racking up some damage and kills, might have been a bad build on the Highlander but I went toe to toe with one and dropped him :)

I've had nothing but success with my Orion.

All builds differ, of course. My ON1-K:

STD 280
maxed armor
AC/20 w/ 4 tons in the legs
2 ML
2 LL

If you don't enjoy mixed ranges and want it to run slightly cooler, you can drop the 2 LL and slap in 2 MLs for a medium range punch.

Play this build as a 2nd-line brawler for the best success, although it is possible to go head-to-head with an assault and live if you're good at tanking damage.

ON1-K. XL 330, 4LL + UAC/5
The ON1-K is the only Orion I have and while leveling up basics I have a 0.52 W/L (ducking matchmaker) and a 1.33 K/D ratio, along with 395 damage a game on average. Will get the VA and V and will set up the V with UAC/5+AC/5 + 2LL and the VA with AC/10 + 2LL + 4 ssrm2.
Really enjoyed getting basics on the K, can't wait to get to try the others.
