I was wondering about this question. I live in a rural part of Louisiana. I have heard of people taking a long USB cable and using a parabolic dish (like a directv or dish tv dish) to boost the reception enough to play games. I have one on the roof and I was thinking of getting a long enough cable to run up there like 10-15 feet. Anyone else out there thats experimented with this? I have also heard of signal boosters but I hate to pony up money on something I dunno works. I've got a decent system I just need ideas on how to boost my connection.

you do know they make actual signal boosters you plug into the wall, right?
As far as playing goes, 3G should be sufficient, and 4G will be good, although you will go through your data fairly quickly, so long as you have a stable signal.

I knew, but do they work? Have you used one? I have unlimited data plan, so I'm not worried about it.

They do work. They'll cut your data speed by 25% or so, but so long as you put the antennae where there is a signal, it will give you a better one in the surrounding area.
Though I personally haven't used one, I have relatives who do.

Thanks V, I'll have to do some research and see whats a good one then. Hopefully i can get a stable connection. I have actually brought in a dish, and it really does increase download speed when you put the card in the middle of it. Just not upload speed.

I use a 4g Connection up here in canada as I am 1 kilometer outside of broadband territory in any direction. I have no issues playing Aces High, BF3, Il2 Sturmovik on this connection and my pings are as low as 60 and as high as 150 on a bad day. I get absolutely assraped on data charges and generally go over my 9 gigs/month. I've had monthly bills in excess of $1000, I am almost ready to canvass the neighbourhood to see if anyone else would like to pony up for cable, I was quoted $84,000 for them to run it down our road. Le Sigh......

if you are in mississauga, there should be rogers there. is it not available in your area??
i have the same problem using verison broadband at either 3G or 4G as MW:O does not see the connection. has anybody actually connected with broadband?

Given the lower bandwidth and variable connectivity, probably though I don't think you will appreciate the experience.
