I'm still torn on whether or not I'm even purchasing a Phoenix package...but while making my decision i have been in the mechlab. I have dabbled some on both the Thunderbolt (P) and the Battlemaster (P) variants and I find that the Thunderbolt is the better of the two! Obviously you lack some tonnage, but the layouts are similar with the advantage of speed going to the Thunderbolt. I can't take them out for a test run, but I wanted to get the forum's opinion on these two and why your going for the Overlord package vs the Guardian package. If I spend $90.00 I can get 15 mechs, including the Saber pack with mediums that I love to pilot. Or I could spend $110.00 bucks and get them all, but I just don't feel the Battlemaster + 60 more days of premium is worth it. I probably won't make a decision until closer to Oct 15th, still waiting on the miracle updates most of you are looking for as well. To buy or not to buy..that is the question!

I like the BM better, but both look nice, and honestly, it's personal preference.

Just a note though. Premium time for a month generally costs $10-$15 depending on the MC package you purchase. So, for the cost of 2 months of premium time, you can upgrade from the Thunderbolt tier (don't know the name) to the Battlemaster tier, and get the premium time, 3 more loyalty dangles (may not be an issue for you, but they can't hurt), 3 more mechs (including 1 hero equivalent) and the mechbays that go with them.

So, from a pure value perspective, it's worth it, even if you end up not liking the Battlemasters and selling the other 2. From a "do I want to part with $20 more?" perspective, that's up to you. Personally, I'm going overload and might skip the Saber, but that's a financial issue more than a value issue (and I want the BM).

this is precisely why i went with overlord. relative value wise it gives the best return of investment, if you look at the price of premium time, etc. this is also why i skip the saber reinforcement.

apart from the money side of things: the BM looks nice. if speed is an issue for you, you could even toss in a 370XL or something (will have to see how vulnerable the side torsi are) and build some pretty nasty, speedy laser-tanks, or similar.

i just wish it had one more missile hardpoint. but it's still a wicked 'mech that'll be open for all kinds of fun experiments (ghost heat might become an issue with this many energy hardpoints).

I went Overlord specifically for the BattleMaster, but the extra premium time alone is worth getting it.

I think the Battlemaster is a nice mech. I would base the decision on your available time. If you're on a daily job and can't grind the CBills like high school students can, then why not grab the biggest package? Extra premium time and the Battlemaster is an ok deal. I don't think either mech is better than the other, they are just different.

This is something only you can anser for yourself, It depends on what you want to pilot and your playstyle. I went overlord down to i am a assault/heavy pilot with a small affair for ballistic mediums. people have done the numbers on all the packages and the overlord was the most cost effective, this was done before the saber package came out.

There's future value in that as well. It means you don't need to keep a chasis you don't like once you've done it once
