might as well skip any real point to a framework for Community Warfare too. IT'll literally just be a faction decal thing. (Of course, that's assuming we ever see it, and that CW doesn't just turn into a faction decal)

Its probably already scrapped at this point. Technically speakin, we should be well into the clan invasion by now, but we haven't seen anythin involvin that.

This is fine by me because it means we're far closer to the greatest mech in the Battletech universe than we were before. Soon I shall pilot an Uziel and all you shall bow before my power!

Related note. Anyone who thought we'd actually follow a 1:1 timeline was delusional. Did any of you honestly believe we'd have to wait 11 years for a Thanatos or 15 years for an Uziel?

The whole idea of the timeline is to create an atmosphere or back drop to the factions in CW.

Since CW is basically a year late at this point, phase 1 is just going to be creating a unit or joining a house. And that's it, I bet zero progression or reason to chose one over the other... but if it were something with a little more substance rebooting to 3050 would be a good idea..

Most people thought we'd have a time skip to each major TRO release.

The timeline needs to be advanced to the year 3058. No new technology is available until after that TRO. Clans are still fighting the Inner Sphere more or less unrestricted above the truce line demarked by Tukayyid. Post Tukkayid is a rich time period to play as the Chaos March provides a legitimate region for the major power to be in conflict.

Just a thought.

Those are hideous anime-inspired bits of nonsense. I hope we never see any of them in the game.

This has always been a problem with Battletech games, people have wildly differing opinions which timeframe is something they want to play in.

Some want all the goodies right now, while some can't stand the {Scrap} that came in the later years (Haven't even read jihad age stuff... so guess my viewpoint is plain)
some old timers want 3025 tech only, some 3050's, newer generation seems to want the uber clan mechs, some want mixed tech. Anyways, it is like our taste in women, there is no one right choice, whatever floats your boat.

PGI does have a way of sorting this, at the risk of splintering userbase though. They can bring up time specific instances of MWO, however in the long run I don't think it would be good.
I can foresee the horror of 10 different flavored MWOs spring up, creating marginal user groups in many and can only be horrible, thus I hope they won't if they want a strong brand for MWO. At least for some years.

3050's is a fairly reasonable middleground that appeals the largest crowd.

Also, I recall from some ngng podcast that they were considering rolling back the clock, although they are not really communicating so no idea if it's going to happen. I hope this changes after launch party.

i dont want them to rush thru the potential lore and such. But i do think the 1:1 timeline is bad. If anything they should just say okay right now we are in year 3025 then down the road say okay we are now in year 3027 or whatever. or maybe not even say what year they are in and let us figure it out by what mechs they are releasing.

As PGI, I'd scrap thetimeline and introduce each year a new Event/Operation, which last for 12-18 months, introducing new mechs and (later) new equipment and put the timeline forward.
3050: Clan Invasion (Clan mechs, some IS Mechs - e.g. Mauler, King Crab)
3057: Operation Guerrero / Refusal War - some Mechs of TRO 3055 & 3058
3060: Second StarLeague (Death of Clan SmokeJaguar, St. Ives Conflict) w/ Mech from TRO 3058 (especially Clan)
3062: FedCom Civil war w/ Mechs from TRO3060 & 3067
3067: Jihad - Dawn of the Jihad (TRO 3067)
3072: Jihad - Turning the Tide (TRO 3075)
3075: Jihad - Retribution (TRO 3075)
3079: Jihad - Endgame (TRO 3085)
3085: The Republic (TRO 3085)

Enough stuff for 10 real years. If the game survive long enough...
After that the Brush Wars between 3085 and 3130 as well as the years after 3130 give also enough stuff.

How are you going to "fight" the clans... It's 100% PVP there won't be all IS vs Clan matchmaking. That would be a huge wine fest, I hope PGI would be smarter than that.

Someday, someone on this forum will post up a poll where the choices are not fraught with biased wordings. On that day, I shall vote in it.

Also, you can keep your munchkin mechs, and we'll keep our timeline. :)

Er... what's left of it anyway. :)

Edit: Here are some of the mechs I want. I think they are throwing away tons of money not offering the full list of mechs.

I won't miss any of those. Timeline needs to stay. sorry.

Actually, PGI would be stupid NOT to have Clan vs IS. Since that was the premise for the launch of the entire game.

"The Clan Invasion".

And it will likely be simply solved with either 8 v 12 or 10 v 12 in those ques.

I think this is where UI 2.0/CW is meant to come in. Since we would interact with 'planets' rather than the current system. So if a clan was holding a planet we should find ourselves up against clan or IS forces depending on which side we are on. The planet choice should basically effect the queue balance and what forces we find with mercs filling all gaps.

There are bound to be timeline skips- and even if there aren't, at the pace that things are advancing, CW should hit around the time those come into play anyway :).

I'm pretty sure in one of the podcasts they said they've tossed the timeline. It was just convenient for the initial CB/OB launch.

I'd dig it up, but I'm about to leave work.

If they skip it ahead to the end of the 3050's Davion can actually fight Steiner in community warfare. Why would the Federated Commonwealth fight itself in 3050?

Pretty sure a PGI design Uziel will be as tall as a hunchback, but as wide as an awesome. Actually scratch that. It will be a Jager mech with arms from an awesome, but legs from a cicada and the spoiler on top replaced with a missile launcher. Short, ten feet wide, and hit box that works like the awesome does.

but otherwise yeah it would be cool to see. that and the bushwacker.

I actually hope they sort of hang out around 3050 for a while. I dont care for the uber jihad {Scrap}, but the clan vs IS tech and mechs was always kind of neat in the older PC games. MW4 did ok too with balance on the lasers anyway, more range but more heat, and I think they tweaked cooldown times too in the end to make IS lasers have a place(ran much cooler). I like the idea of mixed tech, maybe they could use loyalty points to unlock that ability for house mech variants or something.

but I agree with others, some of the newer ones would be nice in game, but i would actually rather them flesh out the remaining "oldies" before venturing into new stuff. Thats probably the completist in me.
