Can someone please explain to me what in the **** happened here:

Posted Image

Here is the build I was using.

This was on Tourmaline Desert and I was pretty damn far from the enemy. So far, in fact, that not only did I not see him, but it wasn't even possible to obtain a target lock.

How the **** does an ERLL, LL and GR combo collectively do enough damage to one component from 900+ meters out?!

actually that was 2 Gaussrifles but MWO labels multiple weapons as 1

so yeah, you got skimmed by a Er large laser, Popped by 2 Gausses and then finished by another Large Laser

2 mechs, alpha'd as one

It doesn't list multiples. You may have been focused by a coordinated fire team using multiple GRs, LLs, and ERLLs all aiming for the same point. You might also have been taken out by happenstance, when multiple enemies just randomly all shot your same side torso.

Also, you put an XL in a Cataphract. Expect to die quickly if people bother to shoot at you.

Hi, mind if I hijack your sig? A moderator said he'd ban me if I used my old one again...

I had this happen in a pristine Atlas mech. I paused to type something while sitting on a hilltop and next thing I was toppling over dead. No shake or registration of a weapon impact. One shot.

I got shot by Ohms who is apparently a good player. He said it was a lucky shot but I found it outrageous considering the condition and type of mech I was in. I am assuming a headshot of some sort? I thought PGI fixed the eye slot on Atlas?

There may have been more weapons too- it only showed 3, but that was because it had to tell you all the things that it broke too.

No love on that hit.
We might have more/better answers if the damage log was more than 7 items long.

Ok, I didn't know that. But if those were indeed multiple hits, they ALL hit at EXACTLY the same time, because I literally died from the first hit in the game.

And, no, it's not latency. My ping never goes above 20.

I didn't put it there; the 3D comes with that engine.

Actually, I ADDED armor to it; the stock 3D comes with LESS armor, believe it or not...

Again, I died from "one hit", so if there were more than just those weapons, they all miraculously hit at the EXACT same time.

Well, the exact loadout is in the link to smurfy's mechlab.

Your build is simply just bad.

It doesn't use DHS, you didn't even use Endo Steel (14 slots required), your front side torso armor is worse than the max possible arm armor (too much back side torso armor) and XL compounds that poor setup.

In short, noone should be surprised that the setup got you killed for being a primarily short range build vs long ranged weapons.

That's no good, Go endo and DHS bump all that armor up. I would even take a little off the back and move it to the front. With that 280 you can twist pretty well. Move the AMS ammo to a leg and some ac5 to the head. The AMS may not get used at all and you don't want to risk an ammo explosion in the cockpit. Ammo gets used top to bottom and the AC5 will go the fastest.

edit: Deathlike beat me :P

Improving the build, based on most of the existing stuff:
CTF-3D

Added DHS, and Endo. Completely adjusted the ratio of AC5 ammo to LBX10 ammo (it made zero sense to me). Moved the left torso JJs to the CT as the extra DHS in the engine will buffer them. Armor readjusted to max leg protection and reduce the left arm armor (only 1 med laser) since it isn't that important.

Yeah, I know. I JUST bought the ******* thing and had a GRAND TOTAL of 125,000 c-bills in the game. Basically, no money to upgrade outside of a few modifications.

Nevertheless...

What does ANY of that have to do with the question I asked? Am I missing something here? Does having Endo-Steel and Double-Heat Sinks make it MORE difficult to get killed with "one" shot?

Not really. At least, it's nowhere near as fast as I would like. Along with the ES and DHS, I'm trying to save up money to get a 340, but constantly being put into matches where we lose 12:0, 12:1, 12:2 along with getting one-shot within the first shot of the match is really putting a crimp on the number of c-bills I earn.

And this is WITH Premium Time active. ;)

HAHA Very funny! :P

I spent nearly 2 hours playing today. All but 2 were loses, and EVERY match had LRM boats galore. In one match, in fact, my AMS ammo went from 2000 to 600 rounds in about 30 seconds, while hiding behind rocks.

Saying "AMS ammo may not get use at all" is like saying, "running into the middle of highway traffic while blindfolded may not get you hit by a car".

I understand most systems in MWO, but this concept of a magical ammo explosion alludes me. I thought ammo only explodes if the armor is stripped off the component.

Also, since playng this game since January, I've been killed by an ammo explosion once and only once: this past week when I overrode the overheat THE FIRST TIME on my CTF-2X.

Lots of misquoting.. I didn't say the stuff you're claiming to have quoted...

That's not the point, just move like 10 pts of each of the back torso armor to the front, and your survivability increases quite a bit.

Also, you should syphon off some armor from the left arm to the side torsos or CT.
