Wow, that's actually an exceptionally fair review. I've always been surprised by how good GT video reviews end up being.

tl:dw, great game, no content.

It is a fair review and the game certainly deserves a 6.0. Its sad that the long-standing MechWarrior community has to endure a mediocre entry into the series getting reviewed well before it should have.

Well, I would give it a fair review too. Its certainly not a 0 or a 10, just 'cool art, ok game-play, needs way more work for underlying mechanics.' And most of all, give me a stock mode please.

I think our "love" of reviews for MWO is already overwhelming their servers.

The game is more or less exactly what it purported to be; multi-player MechWarrior/BattleTech. While I too would like "more to do", more maps and more modes are in development, and there are already a score of organized leagues (Proxis, RHOD, etc.) that cost nothing to join and provide for some serious competition. Those who want the instant 'bam, headshot!' gratification of CoD should stick to those types of games, and those expecting a fully immersive single-player game should look to companies with the budget and developers to produce such titles, and not a small-time studio that doesn't charge a single cent to play.

I'll agree with the review that the game needs more content, but in a way, I have to ask what one could reasonably expect from an F2P title. This game wasn't produced by Microsoft or Blizzard-Activision's squillions of dollars/development team members, and so put into the context of an F2P game, it's hard to be supremely critical of it; it has weak points, but when you look at the materialistic constraints it has to deal with when pitched against other online/multi-player games with budgets and developer teams beyond PGI's widest dreams, I'd have to say that this game gives an extremely good account of itself.

While I admit some bias insofar as I have always been a huge BattleTech/MechWarrior fan, I'm also an extremely picky gamer who has never before really delved into "indy" games nor played any F2P's, as I regard most as horribly mis-managed cash-grabs. This is the first F2P that I've seen that isn't blatantly "pay to win" and that manages to produce a stable and enjoyable experience that feels like a premium game. I'd like to see more content developed more quickly, but the speed at which it is released is quite simply a result of the financial reality that a project like this lives under.

Fair review.

''Given MechWarrior's rich history, it's fair to say that something's missing when you find yourself in an endless arena.''

Are you listening, PGI...?

It is back up...well, I must say: Fair review. 6.0 seems legit at the current state.

This is what it purported to be, once, at least that was PGI's position at the time:

Thanks for relinking it, I think that is what most of the newcomers and WKs need to remember, THIS is what was promised....THAT was the vision.

Until recently I wasn't able to find any job at all, so let me tell you, I've played lots and lots of F2P games; and MWO? I enjoy it, I still play it from time to time, but it's a reaaally low tier f2p game as far as they go, both content, and dev-to-player relationship-wise, and those were smaller and poorer companies without the benefit of an established IP too. If it wasn't for the fact that Battletech has such a dedicated fanbase, everyone would have left out of boredom long ago.

Except that all those external leagues are fan run and hosted, costing the organisers significant amounts of time and money. Even the Mechwarriors that make up the teams are punished for their motivation, it can take an hour and a half to get a single organised match played with the vagaries of sync-dropping. Player-generated late game content is being suppressed.

Review hits the nail on the head.

Core stuff is in place but it's all too repetitive right now.

Embellish the metagame, bring in CW and you'll get things moving in the right direction.

When that happens, time to re-install.

Review is fair, and points out exactly what is wrong with the game right now....nothing to do beyond simply shoot each other.

I like solo-dropping, and I like four man dropping, but I would really like these matches to mean something. Working for a faction or working for a merc corp to gain planets would make this all far more interesting than simply building up cbills.

Competitive 12 mans are for a relatively small portion of the playerbase, but I still believe in the lobby system they've been agitating for, as well as some sort of in-game standings that show the current situation of each in-game league.
