Right is meta.

Left is OP.

I was noticing this the other day, every map, both teams go right. I only play conquest so assault may be different. I think this has more to do though with the base placement, for all the maps (except frozen city where everyone goes middle) the right base is placed more conveniently for capture, with better cover, or closer distance.

The only way to change this will be to change cap point placements.

Well on Canyon PUGs don't usually go right, River city varies from game to game, Tourmaline from South spawn usually goes left, Alpine is pretty random, people seem to go all over the place on that map.

Seriously, it's the meta. Everyone knows that everyone will normally go right, so by going right yourself you maximize your chances of surviving the opening salvos from the left.

Only crazy people go left. Crazy people and lights.

Also, this is not true on all maps, as teams starting on the lower base on Alpine (for example) will always rush straight ahead to their deaths rather than take the long journey to the right (that would just have got them capped for their trouble anyway).

What he said.

On top of that, after playing conquest for a while, you get use to running right, learn the right side of the map, and always go right even in assault. Just the way it runs. We are habitual creatures.

I sometimes go left in Assault if I'm already pointing that way. In Conquest, I will run to the right side to get Ep/Kappa.

Why not just set up an ambush on the left knowing they will go right? Why the need to run in circles and delay something that is inevitably going to happen anyway?Im talking mostly about Assault rather than Conquest which has need of slightly different tactics.

Some of this is habit. "I always go right".

I actually find, most times, that the general team just goes straight (to theta) and ignore the sides. The scouts (faster mechs) I find tend to run right to get the closest capture point. This tends to leave the team open (on assault) to a strong left flank, but the enemy is also subject to the same flank (run far enough "right" and you end up behind most of the enemy).

We just follow what we habitually do. We get better results by going right more often than left (go left, you go alone, you die alone), you just naturally run along that path as soon as you load into a map. You follow the reward where it is.

OK, I'll try to take this thread seriously.

I'm going right because the long range weapons {ballistics} of most of my mechs are placed in the right arm and torso. So in order to play a better peekabo game moving forward while using available cover and not expose myself so much while the mechs get closer into brawling range I instinctively choose the right paths most of the time.

I also play Hunchbacks which teach you to protect your right torso thus making you go right so that you can torso twist using your left torso for protection.

This is madness. Do you even know what lies to the left? A crazy man once told me there's a ship frozen in the ice on frozen city.

A ship in a city! That's about on par with going left.

Center, always center. I run it screaming "BANZAI!!!!" while full alpha-ing everything I see. It's the DCMS main strategy!

Seriously though, depends on the map and spawn you're at. Left or right doesn't matter, coordination between the team does.

Right-handed mechs drive this, IMHO, and then it became a meta thing.

I approve of going right, it is one of the only methods known to man that makes nooblets move in groups and not scatter.

He's got it right. Everyone mounts their big guns in the right arm or torso. So when firing around a corner you only have to expose half a mech and there is little to no fear of retribution from the 3:00 - 6:00 positions.

Also if caught out in the open you can turn torso down field and use your left arm as a shield.
