Using kinematic equations, I have done some calculations

I do not see a HSR issue using only 30% thrust. I see no reason in game terms, why you would want to spend 44 seconds of a 48 second flight floating helplessly in space wondering if the incoming fire gets you before the impact does. So please, cut the thrust and give us a proper Moon Base map.

Because it'd be awesome. Also, there are some flaws in your calculations, namely you're assuming that you're going for a full burn right off the start. Most pilots tend to figure out that if they do this they're going to start damaging themselves pretty quick and for light pilots that means you're making yourself easier to leg. So because of this, you save some fuel get as airborne as you need to be and save the remaining thrust to slow your decent meaning that you don't destroy yourself on landing.

I highly support the idea of different cooling in the shadow and the light! Maybe make a thread in the suggestion forum?

(BTW preview here from minute 22:20 on http://www.twitch.tv...man/b/472237522 )

Beaten to the punch. Looks like Cybertron or something.

Now we have a good training/arena map. My only gripe is the color. The people living there have to be sick of gray. Cannot think a facility that large could be hidden from view by a paint job.

Probably not paint as much as the normal color of the construction material.

Why paint something like that?

One WIN point for the construction material argument.

Spacecraft are usually coated with some combination of white (good heat reflector), black (good heat absorber), and gold (high corrosion-resistent). A vacuum moon base would have to deal with similar issues as spacecraft.

im not that excited about the new map, looks kinda dull to me, i was more hoping it would be like a large scale moon base alpha map (from the game moon base alpha) AKA: scattered science buildings, resource tubes connecting buildings, more of a fight over moon base rather than battle for the death star.

also has anyone else thought that this map will just make the mechs look like transformers? which will be weird and i find the map is basically just a excuse to make a generic arena battle map. if you want to see the kind of moon base that would be cooler to fight over check out mechwarrior 4 vengeance mission 1 and the moon mission on mechcommander 2 where the HPG's are just a single building in the middle in a military base rather than some strange alien looking HPG being the ENTIRE map. it just does not feel like battletech and more feels like halo or transformers which is something i do NOT want battletech to be mixed with. really disappointing but at least this is the closest we will ever get to Solaris arenas

I assume what you mean stinky, is like the Moon base for Mech Warrior 3: Pirate's Moon :). Now THAT was a moon map.

The base's architecture only makes sense to me if it was designed as an arena, and the Death Star texture is there to confuse Mechwarriors in matches. The HPG tower was built to broadcast matches to other solar systems.

Like it

Could use one or two space craft hanging in high air ‘in the same way bricks don’t’ and a sprinkling of larger lunar tracked crawlers, I thought I saw one, and a few civil construction mechs, not to forget moon buggies, hover trains…

That map did come to mind, but i'm happy with hpg manifold too! Extremity seems more like an asteroid to me.

1. This map is on an ASTEROID, so no atmosphere to speak of.

2. Heat will most likely be 1 of 2 things, either be very very very cold with perfect heat dissipation. Or will be very hot due to unprotected from the star's radiation. It all depends on how far away the roid is from the star.

I am no BT wizard of lore but Hypothetically if you are in a no atmosphere moon wouldn't Lrm's have trouble steering? If Lrm's steer based on adjusting their fins like rudders in the air then the lack of an atmosphere would be a problem. Does this make sense or do BT Lrm's change the angle of their nozzle to steer?

That makes sense. Unless they use vectored thrust, of course. It would be interesting to have maps where certain weapons don't work (LRMs and Streaks in maps with no atmosphere), but you'd have to be able to pick your mech for that to work.

In an Asteroid field?
With a rotating Asteroid field back drop? or more than one back drop!
With a small orbiting asteroid or two?

With a jump ship (highliner)?
And commercial drop ships landing and taking off or just hovering high in the sky?

Liquid gas Geysers on the surface, extra cooling?

Want
