Here guys.... http://www.sarna.net...ght_BattleMechs I give you the Sarna list of light mechs... Not the occasional use of 'harrasser', 'striker', 'fast strike', 'guerrila'...

Yeah, that's where I got my selection of mostly long range an heavier weapons loaded Lights from from.

It would be challenging to find a better light pilot then I am, I play them almost exclusively. I can carry far harder in a heavy though...wonder what that means :)

We need a Light Mechs bragging thread.

And 3 separate top 10 for Dmg, kills and assists.

Interestingly enough, most Jenners that engage me do NOT jump, even if they could. Besides their superior firepower this is the main reason why I pick my duells with them very carefully, if at all.
Because of this I suspect that the majority of Jenner players are better pilots than Spider pilots. They don't jump in duells.

What separates good Jenner pilots and bad Jenner pilots isn't so much them not jumping, but knowing when to jump and having a purpose to the jumping.

If you make a high jump and your opponent was able to aim at where you'd land, then you screwed up. If you have a significant slow down upon landing then you've screwed up. If you do the same kind of jump without varying it up by cutting jets or extending the jump, then you've screwed up.

The very best Jenner pilots make frequent use of jump jets in duels. They just don't randomly jump very high in front of you for no reason whatsoever.

Here's a couple of drops I did a week or so ago in my TDK:

And a couple I did in my 3A a few nights later:

I'm not claiming to be the best light pilot ever; in fact since I PUG exclusively I'm probably just slightly above average. But those numbers should tell you two things:
1. Yes, there's crazy people like me about that do pilot Commandos, and
2. A Commando can be deadly in the hands of the right pilot.

When I see people post that they die in tehir SPiders all the time, I feel that they are missing the trees for the forest. We non spider pilots are not complainin that Spiders NEVER take damage and that the NEVER get destroyed, only that they shrug off a lot of damage they should take and thus get destroyed far later than they should.

Which means they can pull off what should be suicide like running into a pack of eight enemy mechs to get them shooting at the spider while the rest of the spider's team walks up behind the group and blasts it.

Last night had me wishing I used Fraps to record, I legged a spider and he stopped about 50m away from me and turned to face me. I shot his remaining leg at ~50m stationary with my AC20, the ret turned red, the target info flashed and his remaining leg armor didn't change (it was dark orange internal). He kept blasting me with his large laser, but I had plenty of CT armor, so I lined up my second shot on his other leg in case I made a mistake the first time... dead on hit above the knee again, ret turned red, data flashed, no change.. so I shot that leg with my medium lasers, exactly the same thing. About this time my external armor was red, so I shot the first leg again with both my AC20 and my medium lasers and the exact same flipping results happened. Every shot was close range against a stationary target and I did not miss with lasers or the AC20 yet I did no damage hitting just above the knee. At this point my CT was deep yellow into the internals and one of my team came up and popped him with a large laser at the thigh and killed him..

So yes, something is still really messed up with spiders, but I have noticed it on other lights as well.. hit them right in the back at close range against a stationary target using an AC20, ret turns red, data flashes and no damage... Ive seen it on jenners, spiders, and ravens.. but mostly spiders.

The second thing that no light pilot wants to admit, is that the speed and size of lights function as an armor multiplier. My raven is half again as durable as my CN9-YLW because most laser hits only do a fraction of the damage and missiles are much more easily avoided due to speed and size. Not to mention all the simple missed attacks just due to the speed at which they move. No other mech can run through a group of 5-6 large mechs and survive, and no other mechs can survive the focus fire of the same group of large mechs like a light mech can, and there is something wrong with that. I'm fine with wolf-packs, unheeded lights in general should be dangerous, but seriously right now lights are way more durable than they have any right to be, IMO.

I was on Frozen City the other night and there were 4 of us and 5 of them left. I had just legged a Spider but I was further away from two other guys near it. Rather than get the kill I turned to face a Cataphract that was shooting me that was close by with LRMs hitting me from a Trebuchet. It was badly damaged so after a few exchanged shots I killed the Cataphract but I was hurting as well. I turned to look and the the Spider with 1 leg was still alive. So I turned to shoot it's other leg and killed it before the last volley of LRMs finished off my back armor.

I have no idea what the other two guys were shooting at or if they kept hitting the Spider but doing what you described I guess. I would have thought they would have finished off the Spider and turned to help me afterwards. We lost, Treb was still alive and a Catapult I think as well.

While I agree the mechanic is broken, I can explain what happened.

You took out the first leg. Spider stopped. You shot at the second leg, but the hit was registering on the first leg. Damage transference is from legs to CT @ 25%. So your massive AC/20 was reduced to a AC/5 hitting the spider's CT.

I do wish you had FRAPS running so we could confirm the Spider's CT absorbing the 25% damage and the leg clearing not registering hits correctly.

So you consistently get about 700 dmg per match. Well done.

That doesn't tell me that SPD are broken, it tells me that I want you on my team.

Lights should be completely viable. That means, when piloted correctly, light mechs should rival assault mechs.

I agree with your assessment re: he was probably shooting the wrong leg, I do it myself.
And hey - thanks! Feel free to friend me :( my comp is down (surge killed some video cards) but I'll play with ya :)

*shrugs* I've tested the spider. I found one gap, and it was pretty darn small, right above the crotch area. Submitted the video to PGI back in ... July?

Other than that (I tested in about 6 games) there aren't any gaps that I found.

In pugs, I hear a lot of people whining or accusing when it comes to lights, spiders in particular. In 12 mans, I can honestly say I haven't seen it once. 12 man teams I regularly come up against can hit spiders. Sure, they're more maneuverable, but they still die.....

Hit reg issue.. not a problem.. Lights are just OP Period.. Went I took an 4x Catapataphract against a raven he hit me 3 x with his ac/10 and I hit him 8xwith my ac5x4. Thats 5x4x8=160.. all Center Shot.
He stood there and did not move. and yet he took a fraction of the damage. I was 100m away.. it
Screams 1 of 3 things. MAJOR Hacks still being used or #2 Major Hit registration issues. or 3 There still just insanely OP..
And a Light is hard to pilot. I own a few. you guys for the most part are telented as hell. but there are major issues.

Or 4, you did not hit him in the CT and spread damage to the sides or legs. Or you just missed.

The hitboxes on light mechs are small, as they should be. it can sometimes be hard to differentiate between what counts as a side torso and what counts as center. However, hit reg issues are not so bad as to cause 160 damage to not transfer.

I find that there's not enough cognitive dissonance in the world to reconcile these two parts of your post:

Hit reg is not an issue, then as an example you describe a hit reg issue?

Yes, mainly with hit registration - but that's for all 'mechs, not just lights.
