Heya people, first post for me and allready asking for help xD
Okay, so right to the topic:
I am now starting to gather enough money to build myself a mech, allready bought a Dragon, but I'm not sure if it really suites what I wanted, the Dragon 5N(C) I am playing as trial mech is pretty nice for my playstyle, just wondering if there might be a better option.
I'm looking for a medium or heavy mech for medium to long range support fire.
Need a good mix between speed/maneuverability, armor and firepower (I don't expect everything super maxed, but a good amount of armor is definitly a plus).
What I got to say as well, I am not a fan of missles, so I'd love to be able to use a gaus or AC5/10 in combination with medium or large laser, or (if not with a gaus) a ppc.
So ballistic and energy hardpoints are definitly what I want.
Mostly I prefer to have weapons that hit hard with one attack rather then many small ones.
As long as I can buy it all with CB, I don't really mind if it costs a bit more then usual.
What would you guys suggest as options for me?
PS: sorry if the post is badly formatted, someone I can't quite get the formatting to work right.

Jagermech or Cataphract. I prefer the high arms of the Jagermech but the Cataphract 3D is nice with jump jets.

I might look into those. Just got to see for the speed, so far the 81 I have with my trial Dragon seems just perfect, but could work with less. Also, Jumpjets aren't really a requirement... they are nice, but I can live without. Also while I am at it with asking, any weapon setups that might get me started? (will probably modify things, but I can't complain about suggestions)

The Victor is a larger mech that can mount more weapons and still move over 80 and carry more armor. Like the 5N build of the draggon? Try the VTR-9K, which moves as fast (with speed tweak), has better armor, an extra ML, more Gauss ammo, and a CT that doesn't scream "Core me!". Plus, jump jets!

Want something a little more aggressive? I've been liking this build: VTR-9K. Good striking distance, and enough up close weapons to brawl well, though I think I prefer the one with 2 LLs over the ERPPC and 2 MLs.

Or you could grab the 9S and throw an AC20 option into the mix. AC20 and 2 LLs is pretty devastating.

Want something move survivable? Try a centurian. You don't get the lasers in the arms, but 2 MLs or 1 LL in the CT and a big balistic on the arm and the Cent-A can do damage, and throw some missiles into the mix. Plus, it can go 81 or faster with a standard engine, still carry reasonable weapons, and then live despite taking ridiculous amounts of damage (I regularly got into under 20% armor territory and lived with a cent).

Willing to go all energy? The quickdraw is just as fast, has jump jets, and is an energy/missile mech.

Just some alternatives. If you like the dragon, get one, but there are other options you might enjoy as well.

Hi Saiura,

While I love my Dragons, they are definitely an acquired taste. It's main weakness is the very large center torso, easy to hit from most angles. On the other hand, this means Dragons run xl engines just fine, as most torso hits are gonna go to the ct. As mentioned above, the Quickdraw is a good alternative (and a pretty fun mech imo) as it can use any engine the Dragon could, carries jump jets (which means improved manueverability), and does not have quite the horrible hitboxes of the Dragon.

For ballistic/energy chassis, I'd recommend the Cataphract as it is more durable than the Jagermech. The 1x, 3d, and Ilya Muromets are just fantastic chassis for what you are looking for. Cheers!

also nice Balistic Energy mix is an Blackjack, can move up to 93 km/h, has plenty weapon slots, very manoverable, High Mounted Weapons and Jumpjets.

I guess I will try either Cataphract or Jagermech first, and at some point maybe centurion, those seem to fit me the most. I guess gaus and large laser will be my weapons of choice also, I just seem to get along with those pretty nicely. Though, since I don't necessarily want to buy them all just to see their hitboxes... which of these three would run best with an XL engine, or in other words, have the smallest side-torso hitboxes?

A Cataphract, most definately.

Current plan is a Catapract 3d with a gaus and 3 large lasers as weapon setup, but that only really works if I can run an XL engine. Anyone knows a good way to take a look at the hitboxes without buying the mech?

Thanks a lot for the infos =) been using smurfy allready and so far made myself two Cataphract builds that I think should work for me: 1gaus, 3LL http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b5ea413e6734930 aaand 1gaus 1AC5 2LL http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a0418886613c36c I just have to pick which of both to go for first now. Might actually see for the second version to test out ACs properly.

Going over 80 kph with heavies is sacrificing too much firepower IMO.

That's why I am not going over 65 kph, it's just about fast enough for me and the firepower should still be there

Ditto. Anything larger costs too much, and the XL360 is a nice engine in several mechs.

Pretty deadly build! I still opted for the xl400 route, ended up with this build VTR-DS. Works VERY well for me.

This is true for all my other Victors, I just couldn't justify not using that engine on the DragonSlayer, its the main benefit of the variant.
