Hey there people,

many of you are complaining about the new Gauss mechanic, and the weapon being useless.
I'm one who thinks its a good mechanic, but I too think it needs a little change because many can't find the right timing or its just too hard.

So here is my suggestion:

Change the HUD.
Currently when the Gauss is loading there is a little green bar in the lower right where the other weapons are, and one of the squares in the middle becomes green when loaded.
I yesterday noticed when I played with music and I couldn't really hear the chargeup sound, that the Gauss indicators aren't enough, instead I would suggest something like this:

That would help a lot to find the right timing.
EDIT: the HUD doesn't show the charge up bar until charging up the gauss and becomes green when charged up

Also, I'd suggest to
change the explosion rate of Gauss
AFAIK its 90% now, and has lower HP then other weapons, making the gauss more of a burden to carry with.
Other ammo types are at 10%.
Change the explosion rate for Gauss to 10% too.

My opinion about cooldowns etc. is that they can stay as they are, maybe add a second for the charged up time, but I'm already fine with the current time so I don't care :)
The Gauss it definetly not a weapon for high DPS, but thats not a bad thing.
The range, damage, accuracy and projectile speed make up for that.

I agree that the mechanic idea is sound, just needs some tweaking.

I have read other post saying to add a sound to help when it is charged.

I think I would like to see just a delay for charge up, with no second press of a key to fire, or at least the ability to chose in the options for which style you want.

Another Idea all together is let the charge up hold for a much longer period, up to several seconds. However there is a heat penalty for the longer you hold the charge.

It already has a sound when chrging up.

You only need to press the key once, not twice, and the ability to chose wich mode would make the chargeup change another useless patch.

I've seen the heat suggestion too but didn't like it.

I agree with your visual indicator system, this makes a lot of sense especially with other battlefield distractions. I run three variants of Atlas Sniper and at the moment none of them carry a Gauss; the reasons simple, it's range is to limited. What I would like to see introduced is the Light Gauss, it's hitting power isn't too bad at Dmg = 12, but the Range is a lot more realistic for a Sniper at 1200 m. The Light Gauss featured in MW4.

IMO the Gauss range is already good enough, increasing the range would only help much on maps like alpine peak.
A light gauss would probably add more variety to loadouts.

BTW, this forum area doesn't seem to be visited very often does it?^^

added a small text to the poll because I'm wondering why people vote "absolutely not" for an HUD improvement

gauss needs to have a min damage in min range penalty like PPCs have. Like it or not, Gauss is a long barrel range weapon that is not accurate at short distances.

That's a fare comment CancR. I'm not saying I wouldn't use it at close range; if I had a Jenner right in front of me, rest assured He or She would take one of my magnetically super accelerated slugs out of desperation. (Yes I hate Jenner's that much)

But I fully agree that the Gauss is (or at least should be) a long range weapon and as such should have severe limitations at close range.

As I said in my earlier post above; from the Sniper perspective the standard Gauss has a limited range, that's why I would like to see the Light Gauss introduced. This would enable me to do my job properly rather than resorting to LRM's. At the end of the day, Sniping is meant to be a skill, there's not much skill in waiting for a target lock and firing a Missile. http://www.google.co...YVm1aSO3glTKWtg

I agree with a HUD change. Probably a louder charge sound could be added.
As for Gauss explosion, I suppose it should explode only if charged or charging, may be at 100% rate. As I understand Gauss explosion process it explodes because of charged capacitors that release energy. If capacitors are not charged why does it explode?
