It would be so useful to know what our team mates have as far as weapons, ECM, BAP and AMS.

If no one on my team has LRMs, I sure as [REDACTED] would love to know about it.

If no one has AMS, I would love to know about it.

If no one has BAP, uh, it's okay I guess, but I would like to know.

Thoughts?

"Just ask" ... Yeah, two or three people respond, typically in a troll-ish way.
"Don't PUG" ... Go get me a sammich.

I'd like to see, if nothing else, on the Battlegrid a mouseover popup showing a quick display of the friendly mech's loadout.

Say:
65KPH
468 Armor
Large Laser
Large Laser
SRM4
SRM4
AC10
BAP
AMS
or some such.

And, yeah, asking is pointless. Most or at least many people won't respond. I know I run into this a lot when I'm tooling around in my Spotter Jenner. I say I've got a spotter setup, and ask if anyone has LRM's (so I know if there's any point in spotting), and often nobody responds - or maybe one dude with an LRM10 on his Dragon.

(Yeah, I'm in a really low Elo bracket with my lights - I'm a terrible light pilot, which is why I like to spot)

Then, we start fighting and I see some stalker and a Catapult herfing zounds of LRM's, once I've ran off and played some quality capwarrior or failed at duelling other lights.

On the other hand, I can try to spot regardless, and spend a match carefully scouting and tagging uselessly because nobody has LRM's.

just add a 2D HTAL to all friendly mechs when hitting Q would be great. a target friendly option would be nice too.

Undecided.

I see enough bad talk about people`s loadout choices already once people are dead and in spectator mode.

Dunno if i want to see that right from the start.

I totally agree with you Wintersdark. I run units at both end of the scale; I have a Spider 5K which essentially does the same as you, It's a primary Recon / Spotter. At the beginning of a mission I come up on the chatline and tell the Lance that I am Recon and will send tactical data and grids. Rarely, very rarely does anyone actually respond.

Another Take
To approach the problem from the opposite direction; when I deploy on a large map such as Tourmaline or Alpine in one of my Atlai; the first thing I do is check the pre-drop listings for any likely Recon Lights to pick up on their callsigns. As soon as we deploy I come up on the chatline with: "Callsign" "Can you feed back enemy grids and tactical info". If nothing else I figure that if enough people see this they may figure it's a good idea.

a simple "target next friendly mech" key would be perfect

Being able to /inspect other player's gear is a standard feature of MMORPGs, and people giving eachother {Scrap} really isn't a big problem. Yeah there's occasional "ur gear is bad dood" but there's equal amounts of genuinely helpful advice ranging from "did you mean to be attacking that raid boss with a fishing rod?" to suggestions on how to better stack bonuses or whatever. In any case, jerks and trolls already have text chat so it's likely adding the feature would at worst change the specific topic of their trolling.

Edit: I can say damn and hell but not c.rap? Really? I half expect to not be able to type yen lo wang.

Well one way you can get the lay of the land (in some admittedly broad strokes) is to look for (C)s next to your teammate's mech names. If you see more than one or two, you're going to lose, 9 times out of 10.

I'm Kind of Against this actually... Here's why

-People will use this feature to spend their match ranting at a poorly equipped pilot.
-People will feel at ease to Team Kill allies for poor load-outs
-it encourages elitism and destroys a small sense of privacy. By not having an "Optimized" ACK-40 or a Tri5 Phract people will be vulnerable to rants in.my.opinion
-It takes away the focus of combat. Here's how: It gives more information about your allies, so you're more worried and consumed with their loadouts by checking everyone of them. Instead of using that Valuable Scout time to check the enemy team or fast cap Theta.
continued... If you take 3 seconds to scan Twelve mechs that's ~36 seconds you could have used to get half way into the map in a light mech.
-Instead of promoting cohesion, it will create animosity. "Who are you to judge my load-out" etc.

Just last week I had a Pugger Lecture me on how I should only have 8medium lasers on my AWS-8T
The AWS-8T Can't even HAVE 8 Medium lasers XD

I'd rather have my team be mad at the enemy not ranting at each other, because they're not "THE META"

Honestly, I would much rather have a Built-In Voice-Integration WITH mute function. :)

{Scrap}is not salvage

Are people really that unkind in general? I think most people would rather have their teammates aware of their loadouts so they can perhaps get useful feedback from the more experienced. And it would be helpful to gameplay IMHO.

This.

But, I can see the merits in the argument that players would be nasty to each other. Though, the thought of being a jerk about someone's loadout never even occurred to me before reading Timuroslav's post.

Like I don't know...
~for missile boats and brawlers I can see it being extremely beneficial.
Scouts and light mechs are the ones that will Truly Benefit from this. But, if you're in a Heavy it really does not change your role or play style, unless the Dragon (mech) Does something Funky.
I guess what I'm trying to say is consider the positives and the negatives.

I'm not truly against it, but I'd rather have Voice integration software with mute option in first.
It's just faster to verbally ask, and it's kind of a two birds with one stone deal.

The main issue I see with your wanting voice integration to resolve this issue, only points out it would case more of an issue with voice chat, and ignoring the entire community anyway, effectively removing communication entirely.

We already have people saying "Your load out is wrong". I myself, I have told people they need to rethink their builds as I am spectating them whilst dead. (8 Flamers, they should be advised to re-think their load out, same with 5 TAG, just saying).

The entire voice integration is completely different and outside of being able to know if someone on your team has ECM, AMS, BAP and LRMs.

- Because you are still stuck with ASKING about it, albeit in a completely different way.
- Deaf and Mute people do not communicate via VOICE SOFTWARE.

Yup. The asking is both slow and relies on the the asking player actually having a microphone, other player not having voice muted, and the other player actually caring about answering.

Now, consider *12* people all asking each other what their loadouts are. Chaos on voice! Everyone mutes by default.

Aaaaaand back at step 1.

No, we need to see loadout details of everyone right from the get go.

It'd be nice to not waste my time in my HBK escorting the Atlas who turns out to be LRM support only, when there's a Brawling atlas that actually needs my help, for example.

i would like to see a friendly load out in the same type of way that i can see a enemy load-out by locking on. this would also help because i could see my allies armor display and know if when their armor says "80%" it is spread across all components or if their CT is one small laser away from being cored so i know to protect them. also i have found that in serveral games my ally has a mech the same as mine and is destroying with it so i would like to see his load out.

Yes.

It's been asked about for over a year, and the standard PGI excuse is "too much clutter" - which is complete and utter BS of course.

Just make it so that if you target a friendly their information is displayed in the same place the enemy information is displayed (upper right corner), and in exactly the same way. No extra clutter and (quite likely) very little coding needed to implement.

As for people being jerks; there's no getting around that, and this feature won't increase or decrease the incidence of Internet Tough-guys.
