Of those two, I'd go with the Stalker. All the weapon mounts are higher up and the Awesome is kind of a "barn door" when it comes to being a target. Granted, the deathblimp is pretty easy to hit, too, but at least you can just "alligator" over a hill to launch or shoot.

I run something similar to this:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...994c8f0a2234e02

I'm pretty sure I run mine with dual AMS and a little more ammo, so I probably went with a smaller engine and a little less armor in the arms and legs, but that's a good start. If you're going to boat LRMs, BOAT LRMS.

As with all Stalkers, don't run an XL engine, don't put ammo in your side torsos, and always try to face your enemy rather than give them your side as a massive target. Even with LRMs, you always end up getting swarmed by little guys, so you're right to go with the MLs - 4 of them is usually enough to make a loan light run off after a couple volleys.

I used the Stalker 3H for my first LRM boat and it has taught me a few things.
1. LRM boats/Support Mechs are not suited well for PUG's and it cost a lot and takes skill and time to be effective.
2. You can not rely on others to TAG/Target or to save or protect you in PUG's so you must be able to TAG/Target and defend yourself vs lights.
3. You will not be at the top of the damage or kill lists but will make some CB for kill assists and you die fast due to being lights favorite first targets/kills.

It can be fun and rewarding if you can find others to work with you in PUG's but that is very rare. The LRM boat/Support Mech role is "Gimped" atm due to AMS ECM nerfs etc. so it is not a easy role/choice but if you like it go for it.

My next "Boat" will a Streak boat for the anti light role since that seems to be the only viable option for that role atm.

Oh BTW if you are going to be a BOAT you must maximize your salvo size and carry more ammo than you think. The 3H has 20 tubes per mount so 2xLRM20 apha'ed is sending a true Boats worth (40) of rain per shot.
I have used over 3k LRM missiles per round and that is with TAG/Artemis so load up on ammo just don't put in the torso's if you can help it.
The Awesome 8R can launch 60 LRM's at once according to Smurfy and mount TAG so that is another option but I was told that it dies much faster than the stalker. I have also seen a Cat that ran 6 LRM15's for a 90 LRM salvo but it was stripped and defenseless so I would not recommend it for PUG's at all.

I am pretty sure you will not listen, but the best LRM Boat is the AWS 8V.
Why? All LRM Launchers are on the same torso side (right side). your right arm can carry the tag laser, so you will have to show only a third of your mech to unleash hell. as for defense you can still mount 3 medium laser.

MadMaxMKll do you mean the AWS 8R? or 8V since the R variant seems like the obvious LRM boat choice?

no, i mean the 8V. to use the 8R properly you need to field him out in the open, fully exposed. with the 8V you are able to hide half of your mech behind an obstacle and fire 45lrm. in a 12v12 match you may run short of ammonition fast, especially with the 8R. I have 1980LRM in my 8V, the 8R wont be capable of this without using a XL engine. another small advantage are 4 Laser hardpoints (8V) over 3 Laser Hardpoints (8R) for selfdefense.

that being said, the pure numbers of lrm slots/tubes etc speaks for the 8R, but the proper and constant realization of LRM firepower on the battlefield speaks for the 8V.

MadMaxMKII I played with Smurfy a bit and it looks like you can indeed stuff 3x LRM15's W/Artemis in the right torso but with no AMS. Have you had much luck with using TAG in the head while only exposing the right side and since the LRM hard point looks a bit low on the torso can the salvo clear the cover you are behind?

Do you mind sharing your build with us with Smurfy?

of course i will share. would love to see more aws on the battlefield. I dont use AMS at all, stay in cover and you are fine. the TAG Laser must be in your right arm and not in the head. the Awesome arms have a nice movement capability. that is another advantage over the static stalker, you can move along the frontlines, circle enemies and still TAG them.

edit: and the 8V has one more modul slot than any Stalker or the 8R.

Looks good but I see you use CASE with ammo in your torso vs in the legs, CT etc. like allot of people do. Still is slow but with Elite perks you could pop in and out of cover fast enough.

What do you put in your Module slots?

A friend of mine runs this guy. You get 28 complete salvos of 50 LRMs plus a partial 29th salvo. If you're working in a team with a spotter you can replace the TAG with another medium laser.

i whould rather use a catapult with jumpjets, and also 4xLRM10 is better than 2xLRM20 put them on chainfire

Problem with CAT's is they are squishy and can not carry enough ammo or sinks to fire big salvo's. I just re purchased a A1 to try this jump jet thing and it just lets me get a face full of AC10/20 when I pop tart. Even with the first sensor decay you loose target lock since you fall like a rock vs hang in the air and die.

I even tried the 6 x LRM5 set up and what a joke, you waste so much ammo and do so little damage. I am going to grind out the last of the XP I need for it and sell it quick.

Just sold all my mechs and am going to try a Atlas DC LRM boat for long range and LBX or 2xAC ? for short range. I was told the missile tubes are "Dynamic" but WTF does that mean?

Has anyone played around with the 3 missile hard points that are effective vs AMS but still hit hard?

I like your build,
I created two variations, both are faster:
Variant A - faster
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a26ad4c1c0420b7
Variant B - fastest and fires all missiles in one volley
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d928e8782e45f29
(Must be used with firecontrol to make the LRM5 fire in sync with the 2xLRM15s http://evilc.com/joo...hd-fire-control)

i absolutely hated the stalker as a missle boat. you either have to take a super tiny std engine or die when sneezed at with a XL to have enough ammo, its rubbish IMHO. I also dont like LRMs in atlas's.

its hard to argue with the sheer number of missles the aws 8R can send downfield in a single volley but that being said, the only missle mech ive had success with is the catapult c4.

when you get a chance try the battlemaster out as a missle boat. Been having good luck with it. Can put an XL in and takes a decent amount of punishment to top it off.
