Someone at PGI is a Nautical Nerd. We have ships in River City, Frozen City, Forest Colony, and now Crimson Strait. Didn't think ocean going ships played that big a part in the Battletech universe. May I also remind PGI that none of the maps feature an intact spheroid dropship. Only Tourmaline Desert has the Mammoth remains. Even there you can hardly tell what the crashed dropship was (it now the "Stargate").

I would suggest adding Overlord/Union landings and takeoffs to the skybox of Canyon Network. At Crimson Strait I suggest adding a shutdown Union on one of the landing pads (May need to expand them, they look too small). A mech drop would be a cool addition to the River City skybox.

Because lore-wise, mechs aren't THAT common.
Most of the inner sphere is kinda backwater, in-planet shipping.
You have many, many more ships than dropships.

Think about it, when was the last time you saw an Aircraft carrier?

  • A true Battletech backwater planet would be lucky to have a tractor. Schooners would be more likely.
  • We are fighting for the planet of each of the maps. There are mechs (us), so there should be dropships.
  • While relatively low-tech (late 19th century), ships require lots of infrastructure (Steel mill, Shipyard, Ports). Otherwise you are back to schooners. All you need for a Spaceport is a large concrete pad.
  • You need a robust planetary trading economy to justify the large freighters. Other then Earth, all planets were colonized with the capital likely located close to the resources the colonist were after. Think the only city on the planet is Chicago Detroit.

...dude....dropship remains in Alpine Peaks would help break up that map a bit. I like your idea of adding dropship art.

It would even be fantastic to see a dropship off in the distance still operational...I mean, how did we get on this planet anyways right?
