I think the pregame timer is completely useless. There is always someone in a 24 group of players that won't press ready.
I know it's there for players to discuss their strategy before the match but I have not seen it used in this way once. That's what voice chat is for.
Please remove it, it serves no purpose aside from wasting people's time.

It is a good idea. It just needs more polish.

Keep it; there are features that can be added to that time, like introductions once we have VOIP, setting weapons groups, etc. Unfortunately, we don't have anything useful to do with the time yet.
So I'd say make it much shorter (20 seconds) until there is a reason for it.

Start it at 2 minutes, but remove 5 seconds for every person that is ready.
If almost everybody was ready and wanted to start the game now then those last 2-3 people would only be holding up the game for a maximum of 10-15 seconds.
If a lot of people wanted to plan something in advance then each of them is essentially "given" 5 seconds of time so the more people that want to plan, the more time they have to do it.
Seems fair to me and would take all of 2 minutes to implement.

I agree, remove it from the regular matches as every game ends up waiting for one person who does not click the button - or set a threshold of 80-90% to start game
